WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS
When W.L., now 79, quits working,
he’ll hand the reins to his daughter Nicole, and his foreman Jaime Cervantes. Until then, W.L., a self-described homebody,
will continue to work at the farm each
day and, health permitting, travel to sales occasionally. “I like what I do here,” he says. “I’ve been on one cruise in my life and don’t much care about that; I guess I’m just a good old country boy.
“I’ve been very fortunate when I was racing and with this farm,” he adds. “I had a lot of success back in Texas and even in New Mexico running horses. I never had any great horses, but I’ve won my share of the races.” And as
he, Dee, Nicole and Jaime continue down their road, they’ll continue to win with horses they’ve bred at the Double LL.
