 Wyoming Futurity
JR DASH OF CORONADO
by Michael Compton
Jr Dash Of Coronado made short work of her outing, running her rivals off their feet in the $101,750 Wyoming Downs Futurity
at Wyoming Downs on Aug. 7. She remains undefeated through the first four starts of her young racing career.
In the irons was jockey Jesus Valenzuela, who has been aboard in each of her starts. Jr Dash Of Coronado took command of the 350-yard dash from her rail
post position as soon as the
gates flung open. The brown
filly maintained a clear
advantage through the lane,
and she won by 1-length
at the finish, stopping the
timer in :17.887 over a track
surface listed as heavy. The
final clocking earned an 85
speed index.
Sent off as the race favorite and the fastest qualifier for the main event, Jr Dash Of Coronado, who
Governor’s Cup Derby-RG2

  FAVORITE HONEY

Trainer Monty Arrossa attributes Favorite Honey’s great mind to the gelding’s ability to overcome difficulties in a race. That aided Favorite Honey in the $175,000 Governor’s Cup Derby-RG2 on July 31, his second career stakes victory.
“The break was critical,” said Arrossa. “He got bumped a little bit, but he got out of there, got his position, and finished strong.”
She Goes Up, the odds-on favorite, acted up a little in the gate before the break,
and once the gate opened, Favorite Honey was bumped twice. He shook it off quickly and responded to jockey Armando Cervantes’ urging to win by a half-length in :19.852 for 400 yards.
“He bounced back great after the trials and came into this race super strong,” said Arrossa. “It was a strong field
of horses. It got tight there leaving, but it looked to me like he had the front right away from the gate.”
Arrossa trains Favorite Honey for Five Livestock Company and Steve Wright. The gelding won the 2021 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity-G2 and finished third in the Governor’s Cup Futurity-RG1. Prior to winning his trial and qualifying fourth
fastest, Favorite Honey ran second in the 2022 Dillingham Handicap.
