   executive director Ismael “Izzy” Trejo told the Thoroughbred Daily News in 2017: “It’s a very unusual drug that has no place to be in a horse, ever. The most infamous approach to describing what this drug is [is that] it was a drug they once used on Adolf Hitler to revive him after a drug-induced overdose.”
Millions For Pet Food Ingredient Approval/Claims
According to the Paulick Report, the U.S. House of Representatives on July 20 passed six spending bills allocating $8 million to improve the Food and Drug Administration’s review and approval process for animal food ingredients and to regulate animal-food ingredient claims. Animal feed industries expect the funding to expedite FDA approval of new animal food ingredients in a timely manner and allow manufacturers to develop recipes using the latest nutrition science in an effort to keep animals healthy.
Track To Tack Incentive
Track To Tack is a non-profit incentive program that gives horses off the race track the opportunity to increase their value in the performance horse industry. To be eligible, the horse must have had one official start on the racetrack. Quarter Horses, Appaloosas, Paints and Thoroughbreds are all eligible to participate. The first exclusive race will be held in 2023, but side pots are available in the meantime. $25 entry fee with 80% pay back. The other $5 goes to the non-profit fund for future plans. John Barney Passes Away
Trainer Johnny Lee Barney, 86, passed away on July 28
in Hartshorne, Oklahoma. Barney joined the U.S.
Army in 1954 right after he graduated from high school and served for more than three years before receiving an honorable
discharge. He attended college, but then moved to training horses. Barney is survived by his wife Christine, two children, four grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
   Horseshoe Indianapolis Weiner Dog Races
One-year-old Dachshund Jack was the winner of the 2nd annual Hot Diggity Dog Weiner Dog races at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Aug. 13. A total of 17 dogs competed in three heats with the top 11 advancing to the finals where Jack, who is owned by Doug Ralph, won the $250 prize and Weiner Dog trophy.
