Dash Thru Traffic was the only horse to qualify for the 1992
All American Triple Crown races, the Kansas Futurity, the Rainbow Futurity
and the All American Futurity.
they went to the sale to buy him. He was described as a long striding colt that they thought had great potential. They paid $32,000 and sent him to Jack Brooks for his career on the track.
Dash Thru Traffic went straight to the big time as his first start was in the Kansas Futurity trials. A race he won, qualifying for the finals. He finished fourth in the finals with a late rally that came up short. He came back for the Rainbow Futurity trials handily winning by 2-lengths. He qualified for the finals, again he finished strong but ended up in third place.
The next start came in the All American elimination trials used to qualify for a place in the trials. He again won this race qualifying for the trials. A review of the trials shows that all 10 starters in the finals came out of four races. Dash Thru Traffic won trial #3 in a time of :21.50 with two more qualifiers in Luxurious Dreams in second with a time of :21.550 and Yawls Rabbit in third with a time of :21.630. The next two qualifier came in trial #4 with Disco Del Rey winning in a time of :21.490 and Heart Trick qualifying with a time of :21.660. Perfect Victory was the fastest qualifier from trial #7 with a time of :21.170. She was followed in second and third by Royal First Dash in a time of :21.380 and First Rich Chick in a time of :21.640. First Down And Ten won trial #8 in a time of :21.360 with Texas Heartbeat second in a time of :21.490.
An interesting side light to the All American Futurity is that Dash Thru
Traffic was the only horse to qualify for the 1992 All American Triple Crown races, the Kansas Futurity, the Rainbow Futurity and the All American Futurity. The Kansas Futurity and Rainbow Futurity were
won by Deceptively with Mr Eye Opener finishing third in the Kansas Futurity and second in the Rainbow Futurity. Neither of these runners ran in the finals of the All American Futurity, and Deceptively did not run in the trials. Mr Eye Opener won the elimination trial, but finished third in his trial after stumbling out of the gate and failing to make the finals.
When the gates opened it appears the race was over as Dash Thru Traffic took
the lead and never relinquished it, winning by a margin of 1 3/4-lengths. He carried Jacky Martin to a time of :21.44 winning the $1,000,000 winner’s share of the purse. Race comments indicate that second place Texas Heartbeat and third place First Down And Ten both put up a gallant effort, but they couldn’t catch the winner. Fastest qualifier Perfect Victory was fourth and Royal Down Dash was fifth. They were followed by Yawls Rabbit, Disco Del Rey, Heart Trick, First Rich Trick and Luxurious Dreams. This was the last race of the year for Dash Thru Traffic, who made seven starts with five wins and one third earning $1,037,257. He was named the Champion Two-Year-Old Colt.
Dash Thru Traffic returned for his three-year-old campaign but could only muster one win and two seconds. His win came in the All American Derby trials,
and he was second in the All American Derby Consolation. He was second in
his trial for the Rainbow Derby qualifying for the race but finished 8th with a slow break. His total record stood at 13 starts with six wins, two seconds and one third earning $1,056,943.
It is at this point we will look at Jack Brooks and Jacky Martin with their record of All American wins. The win by Mr Master Bug was the second All American Futurity that Jack Brooks won. The win
by Dash Thru Traffic came ten years later. Their first win with Moon Lark was the first Million Dollar Race and Mr Master Bug won the first $2 Million All American Futurity. Jack won five more with Mr Trucka Jet in 1985, Merganser in 1988, Strawberry Silk in 1989, Falling In Loveagain in 1998 and Eyesa Special
in 2000. All of these All American Futurity winners were ridden by Jacky Martin, except Falling In Loveagain with G. R. Carter in the saddle.
Dash Thru Traffic retired to sire
the winners of $8,154,555.89. They included 445 starters that earned 327 racing ROM with 29 stakes winners and 48 stakes placed runners. His leading stakes earner was Hawkish, winner of three Grade 1 races including the Ed Burke Memorial Futurity-G1. As a broodmare sire, Dash Thru
Traffic sired mares that had 424
starters that earned 288 ROM with 26 stakes winners and 28 stakes placed runners. His maternal grandget earned $6,378,866. The leading stakes earner from this set of foals was Country Boy 123, winner of 10 stakes races from 50 starts mostly in Canada including the Ajax Derby Challenge.
The last foals for Dash Thru Traffic were born in 2008. He had to be retired from breeding due to a breeding accident. He was laid to rest in 2014 due to the infirmities of his injuries. He left behind a great legacy as a runner that fulfilled
the All American Dream for Charlie and Debbie Therwanger.
