Count Them Again, a bay daughter of Premeditation racing for Lola L. Cuellar and Alexandria M. Cuellar, kept perfect her record at Albuquerque Downs with a wire-to-wire vic- tory in the Sept. 12, $100,000 Petticoat Stakes (R) for state-bred sophomore fillies.
Ridden by Frank Reyes, Count Them Again set fractions of :22.08 and :45.05 before reaching the wire in 1:17.20, and her winning margin was 2 1/2-lengths from Graceanne. Jaime Fuentes prepped the filly, who earned $60,000 from her third win in as many outs at Albuquerque Downs.
Count Them Again was bred by Jim Volk. The filly is one of seven black-type stakes winners sired by Premeditation, who earned $318,000 from 18 races and he won four stakes, including the 2002 Alysheba Breeders’ Cup Stakes at Lone Star Park . Premeditation has sired 75 starters and the earners of more than $3.9 million from 13 crops, including multiple stakes winners Mr. Wizard and Beau Wizer.
Count Them Again is the first starter produced by Count Your Cards, an unraced homebred daughter of the Montbrook stallion Royal Orleans. Her second dam, the winning Kentucky-bred Capote mare Bold Feat, ran third in the 1999 Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita Park and Moccasin Stakes at Hollywood Park.
Count Them Again traces back to her fourth dam, Kazadancoa (FR), a winning daughter of the Nijinsky II stallion Green Dancer. A ‘78 foal, Kazadancoa foaled three graded stakes winners, including Changing Ways, the winner of the 1994 Schuylerville Stakes (G2) at Saratoga Racecourse, and Jacodra’s Devil, the winner of the ‘95 Santa Anita Breeders’ Cup Handicap (G3).
Count Them Again began her career
on a sloppy track on July 6, 2019, scoring a 3/4-length victory in a 5-furlong, $20,000 maiden-special-weight dash at Albuquerque Downs. The filly followed that with an upset victory at odds of 8-1 in the 6-furlong, $50,000 Manzano Stakes for 2-year-olds on Aug. 10.
Count Them Again’s win streak continued with a wire-to-wire, 2 1/2-length win in the 6-furlong, $145,000 New Mexico Cup Lassie Championship (R) at Zia Park on October 27. All told, the filly has won five of eight starts, and the $60,000 winner’s share of the purse from her third career stakes score bumped her earnings to $224,780.
The 2-1 second choice in the 10-horse field, Count Them Again returned a $6.40 win mutuel and teamed with 21-1 longshot
Graceanne for a $94.40 ($2) exacta. Tutta Terlingua, a 34-1 longshot, ran third to com- plete a $1 trifecta dividend of $722.10.
Shugs Charlie, Diabolical Wildcat, Chary Ride, 8-5 favorite Tight Fittin Jeans, Datils Native Lady, Reception and Cancan completed the order of finish.
Graceanne is a homebred campaigned by Teed Off Stables LLC. The chestnut filly has she has banked $37,800.
Tutta Terlingua races for Yuliana Yanez, who claimed the filly for $8,000
at Albuquerque Downs on Aug. 28. Tutta Terlingua has won two of 10 outs, and has earnings of $43,657.
