BLAZINBERRYBERRYFAST
Making just her second career
start, Vicente Solis Grajeda’s Blazinberryberryfast broke her maiden in the Sept. 20, $50,000 New Mexico State Fair Juvenile Stakes (R) for state-bred 2-year-olds at Albuquerque Downs.
Blazinberryberryfast defeated Surfz Up by a neck while making her 400-yard trip in :19.795. Jesse Levario rode the bay daughter of Osbaldo for trainer Ivan Tafoya.
Blazinberryberryfast was coming off
of a sixth-place finish in a 400-yard New Mexico State Fair Futurity (RG3) on Aug. 28. The filly was bred by Hubaldo Solis. Her sire, Osbaldo, is a multiple graded stakes winner who earned $456,878 from 43 starts in New Mexico. Osbaldo won five stakes from 2011-17, including the 2011 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park and New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) at SunRay Park.
Osbaldo’s leading runners include 2017 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) runner-up Osbaldo Blue Diamond and ‘18 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) runner- up HS Paul Walker. The stallion is owned
by Hubaldo Solis, and he stands at The Quarter Company in Chamberino, New Mexico.
Blazinberryberryfast is out of Strawberryberryfast, a New Mexico-bred daughter of the Strawfly Special stallion Strawflyin Buds. The filly is a full sister to HS Paul Walker. Blazinberryberryfast traces back to her fourth dam, Topless Dancer,
a winning daughter of the Native Dancer (TB) stallion Texas Dancer (TB) who ran second in the 1976 Texas Futurity at La Bahia Downs and was a finalist in that sea- son’s All American and Rainbow futurities at Ruidoso Downs.
Blazinberryberryfast was sent to post at odds of 7-1 in the full field of 10 and returned a $16.40 win mutuel. The filly earned $30,000 to bring her bankroll to $30,140 from two outs.
CC Moonflash, the 3-1 favorite, finished third, a head behind runner-up Surfz Up. Sweet Zulu, A Flash of Corona, Sonny Surfer, Shakemyseis, Mr Big, Jess Keep a Secret, and Waitanotherdayamanda com- pleted the order of finish.
Surfz Up is a brown daughter of the Corona Cartel stallion Corona Surfer owned by Guadalupe Cortez. An $18,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale, the filly has earned $40,121 from four outs, and she was a finalist in the June 13, 350-yard Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs.
CC Moonflash races for W.L. and Dee Mooring of Bosque, New Mexico, who pur- chased the First Moonflash filly for $27,000 at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. CC Moonflash has banked $8,850 from five starts.
