Remember Me Rose 2019 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year
Remember Me Rose had an impressive career as a competitor, winning half of her outs and accumulating more than $820,000 in prize money. As a broodmare, she has been even better: capturing the 2019 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award.
Currently owned by Dr. Steve Burns DVM, Remember Me Rose (Corona Cartel- Im Moonlighting, Zevi TB) was bred by
MLA International Company in Oklahoma. Remember Me Rose emerged at the top of a field of the 23 best broodmares in the country. She claimed the title by a narrow margin; Remember Me Rose tied with Little Surfer for the honor, but won the tiebreaker because her foals generated more income in 2019. Look Her Over, Feature Jess Rockin, and Fetching Image also were among the top contenders for the award—with Breck N Records and Jess Jumpn also in the mix. Look Her Over, Breck N Records, and Feature Jess Rockin all were represented by Champions last year.
Little Surfer’s most lucrative money earner in 2019 was Uncle D. Named the 2019 Champion Two Year Old and Champion Two-Year-Old Colt, Uncle D’s two stakes wins for Cavanaugh Quarter Horses LLC included the Rainbow
by John Moorehouse
Futurity-G1 and the All American Juvenile. A Clinton Crawford trainee, Uncle D accumulated a rookie bankroll of $682,965, which represented the bulk of the $722,792 earnings (5th among all dams of money-earners) accumulated by Little Surfer’s offspring. Little Surfer was the second- leading dam of 2019 stakes winners.
Look Her Over’s banner performer in
2019 was He Looks Hot, named the 2019 World Champion, Champion Aged Horse and Champion Aged Gelding after a campaign that included five wins in 10 starts, with $420,036 in prize money. He Looks Hot, who retired at the end of his championship year, was home- bred by Edward C. Allred and trained by
Scott Willoughby. Running exclusively at Los Alamitos for his entire career, the gelding logged three stakes wins in 2019: the Champion of Champions-G1, the Spencer Childers California Breeders’ Championship Handicap-G1 and the Moonist Handicap.
Feature Jess Rockin ranked third among dams of money-earners ($878,541), with Cartel Jess Rockin accounting for nearly that entire total. The 2019 Champion Two-Year-Old Filly, Cartel Jess Rockin captured $840,640 in prize money, highlighted by victory in the Los Alamitos 2
Million Futurity-G1 in December. Jeryl her husband the late Ronald Hartley owned Cartel Jess Rockin, a John L. Cooper trainee.
Fetching Image was the top dam of 2019 money-earners, with her offspring bringing home $1,579,492. Mr Jess Jenkins earned
the majority of that amount with $1,576,180 banked in 2019. Owned by Jose Guzman and Rito Sosa, the gelding won the All American Futurity-G1 and Southwest Juvenile Invitational Championship-G2 for trainer Marcos Carrizales.
Breck N Records was the fourth leading dam of 2019 money-earners at $793,197. Trump My Record accounted for nearly all
of that total, scoring nine wins in 10 starts en route to $791,153 and the 2019 Champion Two-Year-Old Gelding award for owner Cruz Nava. Jose Sanchez III currently trains Trump My Record, who snagged three stakes victories during his rookie campaign in the Texas Classic Futurity-G1, Dash For Cash Futurity-G2 and Sam Houston Futurity-G2.
Jess Jumpn led all dams by 2019 stakes wins with five, followed in that category by American Feature, 2018 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Tinys Corona Queen, In The Open and Eye Popping. Jess Jumpn’s top 2019 earner was
