                FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
   Dear Members,
I have just celebrated my third-year anniversary of being your Executive Director. Just when I think I am getting this job down, something new comes galloping around the corner to surprise me. Never a dull moment. I am a bit weary but looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Zia Festival weekend was a lot of fun!
We had our Town Hall Discussion Saturday morning, the Zia Jamboree Dinner and Awards Ceremony, sponsored by Ruidoso Downs, Saturday evening, and of course eight of the New Mexico Bred stakes races that ran on Saturday & Sunday. We had a booth in
the grandstand during the races and enjoyed visiting with lots and lots of race goers. Our new Registrar, Alicia Davenport, came along to help out and to meet some of the people for whom she is registering horses. Luckily, Paulette Taylor was also there to lend a helping hand! Thanks to Crystal Sifuentes of Ruidoso Downs for all her hard work. She really knows how to put on a nice party!
I would like to thank Lowell Neumayer, Dianne Reed and Walt Wiggins of the All-American Ruidoso Select Yearling Sales Company for all the work they do year after year to put on the New Mexico Bred sale.
It means a lot to our New Mexico Horse
Breeders to have a place to sell their foals, and we are so happy that we could be back in Ruidoso this year.
I am amazed by the purse increases we have seen at SunRay Park, Ruidoso Downs, and the Downs At Albuquerque this year
so far! The crowds have been incredible and looking at the pay sheet for the first day of the Downs At Albuquerque meet, they had just under 6,000 people in attendance. That must be some kind of record!
I am happy to see a lot of people who have returned to New Mexico after having to leave due to the pandemic.
Welcome back and good luck at the races! Sincerely,
Mary M. Barber
Executive Director NMHBA
