RUIDOSO HORSE SALES RECAP
NEW MEXICO’S TWO MAJOR HORSE SALES RETURNED TO RUIDOSO DOWNS.

Nineteen Crimes, a Quarter Horse son of the Corona Cartel stallion Big Daddy Cartel consigned by Mac and Janis Murray’s
MJ Farms, sold for $97,000 to top the August 20-21 New Mexico-Bred Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred Yearling Sale at the Ruidoso Horse Sale Pavilion.
The 2020 New Mexico-Bred Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse Sale and Ruidoso Select Quarter Horse Yearling Sale were forced
to move out of state due to restrictions on
large gatherings in New Mexico due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both sales were held at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Ricardo Ramirez signed the ticket for Nineteen Crimes (Hip No. 213), a colt out of the stakes-winning and multiple graded stakes placed Ocean Runaway mare Ms Riptide. He is a half-brother to 2019 Zia Futurity (RG1) winner Mister Riptide.
The second-highest selling Quarter Horse, Ricanelo (Hip No. 156), was purchased by Gene Bradley and Tod Bradley for $90,000. Consigned by Mikkelson Racing LLC, the gelded son of Big Daddy Cartel is out of Total Miracle, a winning and multiple graded stakes placed daughter of champion Dean Miracle, and he is a full brother to Mr Innovator, the winner of this year’s $279,872 Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs.
The Bradleys also paired to purchase
the third-highest selling Quarter Horse,
Reef Ridge (Hip No. 245), for $70,000. Consigned by MJ Farms, the gelded son of the Dash Ta Fame stallion Woodbridge is out of Fast Copy Miss, a winning and multiple graded stakes placed daughter of champion
Heza Fast Man. Reef Ridge is a full brother to 2018 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) winner Woodys Copy Cat.
Badacious (Hip No. 221) was purchased for $68,000 from the Born Running Ranch consignment. Johnny Trotter signed the ticket for the son of the First Down Dash stallion Bodacious Dash and fourth-highest selling Quarter Horse. Badacious is out of Eagle In The Sky, an unraced 8-year-old One Famous Eagle mare and a half sister to Grade 1 winner High Plains Perry and Grade 2 winners Dutch Schultz and Sky Bo Dash.
Linda Joiner paid $60,000 for the fifth- highest selling Quarter Horse, Drinking Champane (Hip No. 172). Consigned by MJ Farms, the Big Daddy Cartel colt is out of Champagne Perry, an unraced daughter of 1994 champion 2-year-old colt Mr Jess Perry and half-sister to champion Alice K White, and he is a half-brother to 2020 Shue Fly Stakes (RG3) winner Champagne Room.
A total of 166 Quarter Horse yearlings sold for a gross sum of $2,730,000, an increase
of 80 percent over the 2020 sale, when 118 Quarter Horses sold for a total of $1,517,000. This year’s average-per-head price of $17,961 marked a 24-percent increase over the 2020 average of $14,448.
Gene Bradley and Tod Bradley were the sale’s leading Quarter Horse buyers with four purchases totaling $185,000. MJ Farms of Veguita, New Mexico, was the sale’s leading consignor with 36 head grossing $997,500.
The sale’s top-selling Thoroughbred yearling, an unnamed bay filly by the late Forest Wildcat stallion Attila’s Storm (Hip No.
41), was purchased for $90,000 by Joe Dee Brooks. The filly is out of Ringback, a winning 14-year-old daughter of the Gone West stallion Gone Hollywood, and she is a full sister to the stakes-placed Fill The Bill and a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Hollywood Henry.
Pierre and Leslie Amestoy of Albuquerque paid $70,000 for High Dollar Hush (Hip
No. 68). A bay daughter of Attila’s Storm consigned by Fred and Linda Alexander’s A & A Ranch at Anthony, New Mexico, the filly is out of Hush’s Gold, a multiple stakes winning daughter of the Seeking The Gold stallion Untold Gold. High Dollar Hush is a full sister to multiple stakes winner Hush’s Storm.
Two Thoroughbred yearlings -- Happy And Bold (Hip No. 51) and Social Club (Hip No. 69) brought $55,000. Brad King and Suzanne Kirby signed the ticket for Happy And Bold, a bay Attila’s Storm filly from the A & A Ranch consignment. Happy And Bold is out of Bold Jubilation, a winning Smoke Glacken mare, and she is a full sister to multiple stakes winner Stormin The Jewels.
Joe Dee Brooks purchased Social Club from the A & A Ranch consignment. A dark bay or brown daughter of the Unbridled’s Song stallion Right Rigger, Social Club is out of Secret Source, a 16-year-old Mineshaft mare and half-sister to three stakes winners, including Grade 2 winner Lead Story.
The Final Footnote (Hip No. 64), a bay son of the Smoke Glacken stallion Read The Footnotes consigned by Mike Logan, sold for $53,000 to H.E. and J.M. Rich. The Final Footnote is out of Henny Luvs Shrimp, a winning daughter of the Hennessy stallion Henny Hughes and a half-sister
