  ELL VALENTINO
Making the first start of his sopho- more season, Beatriz Sanchez-Carrillo’s Ell Valentino scored a half-length win in the April 25, $56,800 New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes (RG3) for state-bred 3-year-olds at SunRay Park.
Prepped by Pedro Carrillo and ridden by Martin Felix, Ell Valentino covered 400 yards in :19.400 and earned a 109 speed index while aided by a reported 12-mph tail wind.
The gelding broke fourth from the four- gate and was in third at first call. He rallied strongly in the lane and gained a half-length margin by the top of the stretch, holding on to finish with that same half-length at the wire.
The sorrel son of A Royal Jess banked $34,080 from his first career stakes victory.
Ell Valentino was bred by Roberto Chacon. The gelding’s sire, A Royal Jess, is an 11-year-old son of 1994 AQHA Champion 2-Year-Old Mr Jess Perry. Racing in three states from 2012-2015, the Oklahoma-bred stallion won three of 11 starts and earned $34,844.
A Royal Jess has sired the earners of more than $171,000 from three crops, including Azara, the runner-up in the June 20 Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs. The
stallion is owned by MRB Racing LLC, and he stands at La Feliz Montana Ranch in Hondo, New Mexico.
Ell Valentino represents A Royal Jess’ first stakes winner.
The gelding’s dam, the winning 10-year- old Corona Caliente mare Hot Hot Baby Doll, was a finalist in the 2013 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park and 2014 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park.
Ell Valentino’s second dam, the Rare Form mare Baby Doll Form, won the 2001 Dash For Cash Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park and was a finalist in that season’s Texas Classic (G1) and Remington Park (G1) futurities.
The gelding traces back to his third dam, Baby Doll Dash, a daughter of the Dash
For Cash stallion Dash Easy who won the ‘95 Oklahoma-Bred Futurity (RG3) at Blue Ribbon Downs.
Campaigned exclusively in New Mexico, Ell Valentino has won two of nine races and has earned $50,648.
Wisho ran second and was followed by Blazinberryberryfast, El Chevo, Western Sandman, Mr Big, Famous Clyde, Star Bridge, Woody Valentin, and Sissy One.
Wisho was making his first start since December 14, when he scored a three-quarter length victory in a 350-yard maiden claim-
ing ($25,000) dash for New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds at Zia Park. The homebred son of the Time Bandit (TB) stallion Next Bandit (TB) has won one of four outs and has banked $20,147 for his owner, Edilberto Estrada-Cano.
Blazinberryberryfast races for Vicente Solis Grajeda. The bay daughter of Osbaldo has won one of six starts and has earned $36,920, and she broke her maiden with a neck victory in last year’s 400-yard, $50,000 New Mexico State Fair Juvenile Stakes (R) at The Downs at Albuquerque.
