SLAMMED
Slammed extended her win streak to three with her 4 1/2-length victory in the August 22, $100,000 Carlos Salazar Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred fillies and mares at Albuquerque Downs.
Slammed covered 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.67. Tracy Hebert rode the 3-year-old Marking filly for owners Fincher Racing LLC, Brad King, and Suzanne Kirby, and trainer Todd Fincher.
Slammed was bred by Brad King and Todd Fincher, and she was stretching out in distance
off of her victory in the 5 1/2-furlong, $50,000 Sierra Starlet Stakes (R) for state-bred sophomore fillies at Ruidoso Downs on July 31. She is one of four stakes winners sired by Marking, a 9-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Bernardini.
Raced on two continents between 2015-2016, Marking won three of eight starts and earned $426,200, and he ran second in Runhappy’s 2015 Malibu Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita Park. The stal- lion has sired the earners of more than $619,000 from two crops, including stakes winners Mark’s Warrior and Marked. Marking is owned by Fred Alexander and Todd Fincher, and he stands for a $3,500 fee at Fred and Linda Alexander’s A & A Ranch at Anthony, New Mexico.
Slammed is one of four winners from as many starters produced by Hennesey Smash, a
12-year-old daughter of Roll Hennessy Roll who won four stakes in New Mexico from 2012-2013. Hennesey Smash has foaled Roll On Diabolical, a half-brother to Slammed who won two stakes, including the 2018 New Mexico State Fair Thoroughbred Futurity (R) at Albuquerque Downs, and Smash Ticket, a half-sister to Slammed who ran third in the Aug. 6, $201,500 Sorrento Stakes (G2) at Del Mar.
Slammed’s second dam, the unraced Rare Brick mare Some Smash, produced a total of five stakes winners from 10 starters, all of whom are half-siblings to Hennesey Smash, including Some Ghost, an eight-time stakes winner and earner of $899,144 from 57 races. The filly’s third dam, the multiple stakes winning Star de Naskra mare A Smash, foaled A Smashing Chance, a half-brother to Some Smash who won the 1992 Old Town Derby at Albuquerque Downs.
Slammed’s win streak includes a 9-length victory in a 5 1/2-furlong, $14,400 first-level allowance for New Mexico-bred 3-year-old fillies at Ruidoso Downs on June 20. All told, Slammed has won four of five outs, and the $58,000 win- ner’s share of the purse from her second career stakes score bumped her earnings to $107,605.
Count Them Again ran second and was fol- lowed by Proofsinthepuddin, Let It Roll, Shugs
Charlie, Graceanne, Flight Song, Devon’s Choice, Movin On, Sexy Bikini Model, Peggy B Fast, and Attila’s Tattle.
Count Them Again races for Lola L. Cuellar and Alexandria M. Cuellar. The filly has won eight of 14 starts while and her five stakes wins include the 6-furlong, $50,000 New Mexico Cup Oaks (R) at Zia Park. The $20,000 runner-up share of the Carlos Salazar purse pushed her bankroll to $328,126.
Proofsinthepuddin is a chestnut 3-year-old Marking filly campaigned by Reliance Ranches LLC. She has won two of six races, and the $10,000 third-place share of the Carlos Salazar purse increased her earnings to $43,624.
