The report noted that between 2007 and 2020, there was a 59.2% increase in horses owned, trained, or bred in the state, as well as a 25.1% increase in Indiana owned property with an additional 47.9% increase in invested equipment directly related to horse racing. “We have seen a lot
of investment in the Indiana Quarter Horse racing industry just in the past five years,” said Paul Martin, President of the Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana. “The Quarter Horse breed is one of the most popular in the state through several disciplines, from pleasure riding to rodeo activities, including the popular barrel racing circuit. It’s encouraging to see some of those people starting to branch out into the racing end of our breed. Our hosting of the Bank of America Challenge Championships this past fall, the industry’s premiere event, boosted our awareness on a national level and increased interest in our program in Indiana.”
Remington Park Hair Testing For 2023 Season
No horse will be allowed to enter a race at
the upcoming 2023 Remington Park Quarter Horse meet unless results of a negative hair test have been provided to Remington Park prior to entry. All pre-entry hair testing will be facilitated by OQHRA. Hair tests are good for 90 days beginning the day after the sample in collected, and horses must be re-tested to remain eligible. Any horse receiving a positive hair test will be unable to enter until a negative test is obtained, and there will be no penalty to the trainer. OQHRA will be setting up one-day offsite
testing days at Retama Park (Feb. 5), Lone Star Park (Feb. 24) and Blue Ribbon Downs (March 3). Testing at Remington Park will begin on Feb. 8 at 9:00 am – noon, Monday through Friday, with no testing done on Feb. 14 or Feb. 24. Onsite test cost is $225. Joanne Blach Passes Away
Joanne Blach, the wife of Dr. Leonard Blach of Buena Suerte Equine, passed away at the age of 87 on Dec. 21, 2022. Joanne was born in 1935 in Greeley, Colorado. She graduated from Greeley High School and graduated from Colorado
State University with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. Joanne and Leonard were married in 1957, and together they had three children - daughters Serena and Pam and son
Kevin. They moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1972 where Leonard became the manager and veterinarian for Buena Suerte Ranch. Joanne was an avid golfer and was a member of the West Texas-New Mexico Senior Golf Association, the Southeast Ladies Golf Association and was a past president of the NMMI Ladies Golf Association. She belonged to several bowling leagues, was a member of the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, served on the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation Board for many years, was a Board Member
of Lend-A-Hand and the Sub Area IV Health Council, and volunteered for the Poor Claire Monastery. She was known for her compassion and respect for others and was a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her husband Leonard of 65 years, three children, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.
