Fontana Beaujolais was a race mare
with 12 starts, two wins, two seconds and two thirds. She was a stakes winner of the 1994 Longhorn Futurity-G3 and third in the 1995 Longhorn Derby-G3. She earned $31,063. The produce record for Fontana Beaujolais gives her 10 racing ROM with two stakes winners and five stakes placed foals. Her stakes winners are Crazy About Corona and Royal Medallion, winner of
the New Mexico Derby Challenge-G3.
Her stakes placed foals were Shaboomator, who was second in the Ruidoso Derby-G1 and third in the Rainbow Derby-G1; Fast Fontana, second in the Fort Pierre Futurity; Frivilous Fontana, second in the Miss Houston Stakes; Paint Your Beau, second
in the King William Handicap; and Beaus Wagon, third in the Holiday Handicap. Fontanas Fantasy, a race winning daughter
of Fontana Beaujolais, is the dam of Okey Dokey Fantasy, winner of the Ruidoso Futurity-G1. The stakes placed Beaus Wagon is the dam of Kooler Wagon, winner of the Rocky Mountain Championship, and One Happenstance, winner of the Campeonato Nacional Dia Del Charro in Mexico.
Holt told how he believed in the pedigree of Fontana Beaujolais, and he liked her sire Moon Lark despite some not liking the horse. But the key was her dam. He explained it this way, “Fontana Beaujolais had a lot of pedigree that had multiple black type horses. The Corona mare was one of many that has produced out of that family, but it all goes back to Debonairess.”
Debonairess was a race mare with 15 starts, two wins, three seconds and six thirds earning $43,690. She was stakes placed with thirds in the 1985 Busch Graham Farms Futurity and 1987 Graham Farms Maturity. The produce record for Debonairess will verify why Holt liked
this mare. She is the dam of 14 ROM runners from 16 starters with five stakes
winners and two stakes placed runners. In addition to Fontana Beaujolais, her other stakes winners were Fast Debonair, winner of the 1998 Texas Classic Futurity-G1; Lady Mara, winner of the 1997 Oklahoma Futurity-G1; Savona, winner of the 1995 Manor Downs Lassie Futurity; and Native Debonair, winner of the 1989 QHBC Northwest Classic Futurity.
Debonairess was sired by Mr Dark Jet,
a stakes winner in the 1979 South Texas Derby. He raced eight times with four
firsts and one second earning $11,473. It
is interesting that he was match raced in Mexico before his official races at three.
He became the sire of foals that won $1,335,508 with 122 ROM and ten stakes winners. His leading money earner was Just Another Jet, winner of four stakes including the 1985 Brady Spring Derby and 1988 El Camino Real Handicap. Mr Dark Jet was sired by Three Ohs and out of Miss Dark Jet by Jet Deck, and Miss Dark Jet was out of Dark Sin by Depth Charge.
The dam of Debonairess is Cause Im Easy, a race mare with four wins and one second earning $2,367. She is the dam of 11 foals with ten starters, seven ROM,
two stakes winners and one stakes placed runner. Her first stakes winner is Dark Deb, a stakes winner in the 1988 Quarter Horse Breeders of Texas Futurity where she set a Track Record for 440 yards at Lubbock Downs. She is a full sister to Debonairess, the stakes placed runner. The second stakes winner is Amir, winner of the 1987 Longhorn Derby. Cause Im Sassy – the dam of Cause Im Easy - is sired by Rebel Cause and out of Sassy T Bars by Diamond 2 Bar.
