Hes Judgeandjury not only won the All American Futurity-G1, he was voted the Champion Two Year Old and Champion Two- Year-Old Gelding.
Steve Holt and Jeff Jones bred Hes Judgeandjury in Oklahoma out of Crazy Down Corona, who also gave them 2022 World Champion Empressum.
“I kept telling Jeff we wouldn’t ever have another one like that,” said Holt after Empressum began running well.
But along came Hes Judgeandjury, and like Empressum, trained by Heath Taylor.
“Nobody works harder than Heath does, and all the credit goes to him,” Holt said at the awards ceremony.
The gelding debuted in the Ruidoso Futurity-G1 trials, winning by 3/4-lengths to qualify. After a bad break in the final, Hes Judgeandjury still managed to finish third.
Hes Judgeandjury was bumped at the start of his trial for the Rainbow Futurity-G1, but still managed to win. He qualified the second fastest and finished fifth in the final.
The gelding was improving at just the right time for the All American. He won his trial to qualify, and coming into the race Taylor felt they had a good shot.
“I don’t know if he’s good enough to win it, but he’s going to run big today,” Taylor told Holt.
Jockey James Flores made sure to warm up Hes Judgeandjury away from the pony to get the gelding loose and ready to run his best race. The result was a spectacular effort, as Hes Judgeandjury held off several closing rivals to win by a neck after a bump at the start.
Following the All American Futurity, Hes Judgeandjury joined his older half-brother Empressum in California. There he won his trial by 1-length and qualified for still another major race, the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1. Hes Judgeandjury finished third in that final, becoming the only horse last year to qualify for and run in all three of Ruidoso Downs’ Triple Crown races plus the Los Alamitos big event.
“He’s just a horse with a ton of heart,” Holt said.
