Cyber Attack earned the Champion 2-Year- Old Colt title when he won the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1 to finish the season. The field behind him included third-placed Hes Judgeandjury, winner of the All American Futurity-G1.
Trainer Christopher O’Dell and his team guided Cyber Attack to that fitting climax. Following a fifth in his racing debut, the Ruidoso Futurity-G1 trials, Cyber Attack won or finished second in each of his subsequent six races for the Rosenthal Ranch of Connie Rosenthal.
“Connie has blessed me so much—it’s pretty humbling,” said O’Dell, who was making his first trip in person to the awards ceremony. “They say it takes a village, but it takes more like a whole city. Naturally, the colt deserves all the credit, but there are a lot of people behind him.”
Speaking for Rosenthal and himself, O’Dell thanked the riders and grooms involved, as well as Burns Ranch—“where we bought the colt”— and Los Alamitos and Ruidoso Downs “for putting on the show that they put on.”
Dr. Steve Burns bred Cyber Attack in California, the colt still another in the incredible string of outstanding runners by Favorite Cartel and out of Remember Me Rose. Cyber Attack spent the first part of his season at Ruidoso and the latter at Los Alamitos.
In winning his trial for the Rainbow Futurity-G1, Cyber Attack qualified the fastest. In the final, he battled the entire way with Eye On The Card, running second to that rival.
Moving on to Los Alamitos, Cyber Attack qualified the fastest for the Golden State Million Futurity-G1 in his trial. He led for much of the 400 yards in the final, losing by just a nose when Party Politics caught him right at the wire.
Cyber Attack again was the fastest qualifier for the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, and this time there would be no denying him in the final. He grabbed the lead quickly for regular rider Eduardo Nicasio and defeated Jeriko by 3/4-lengths, with Hes Judgeandjury third.
It was the second consecutive win in the race for the connections, following Bomb Cyclone’s win the year before.
