ridden Dexxter in all three of the gelding’s Grade 1 wins this season. “He wants to run off with me around the racetrack. He was so fresh and ready.”
Dexxter was making his first start
since May 30, when the gelding scored a 1/2-length victory in the 440-yard $211,600 Debbie Schauf Remington Park Invitational Championship-G1. He opened his 4-year-old campaign with a wire-to-wire 1/2-length win in the 400-yard $70,960 Leo Stakes-G1 at Remington on May 2.
Later on Ruidoso’s Sept. 6 card after winning this race with Dexxter, Valeriano Racing Stables, Arrossa, and Flores combined to win Quarter Horse racing’s richest race for three-year-olds, the $1,078,098 All American Derby-G1, with fastest qualifier and 8-5 favorite Gold Heart Eagle V. Another Valeriano runner, Inaugurator, ran second in the All American Derby.
“Right now, I just feel so blessed to have these horses,” said Sammy Valeriano. “My trainer and our rider work hard to prepare them for these races. To run one-two in the Derby is a dream come true, and to win the Gold Cup with Dexxter -- I’m not sure we’ll ever have another day like this.
“I lost my father, Greg, in January, and I feel that somehow he is watching over us this year,” he added. “These horses won at Remington Park as well. We feel a sense of gratitude.”
Raced in three states, including California, Dexxter has won eight of 18 starts and has banked $460,012, of which $221,162 has been earned from just three outs this season. The gelding was a finalist in the 2018 Los Alamitos Two Million-G1 and Ed Burke Million-G1 futurities, and last year’s Los Alamitos
Super-G1, Southern California-G2, and El Primero Del Ano-G3 derbies.
Dexxter returned a $6.20 win mutuel as the 2-1 second choice in the field of eight in the All American Gold Cup.
Dexxter was bred Utah by McColee Land and Livestock LLC. The gelding was purchased by Howard Nichols for $40,000 at the 2017 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, and he changed hands at the end of his 2019 season.
Dexxter is out of Tres Of Linda, an 11-year- old daughter of 2001 Champion Two-Year-Old Colt Tres Seis, who won the 2013 Charger
Bar Handicap-G1 at Los Alamitos and earned $167,640 in her race career. Dexxter’s second dam, the stakes-winning Chicks Beduino mare Lindas Dasher, ran second in Champion Ocean Runaway’s 2004 Governor’s Cup Futurity-RG1 at Los Alamitos.
Danjer (FDD Dynasty-Shez Jess Toxic), the 9-5 favorite, ran second in the All American Gold Cup and earned $23,622 for his owners, Downtime Enterprises LLC, Billy G. Smith and Dean Frey, who also trained the four-year- old gelding. Cody Smith rode Danjer.
Valiant Tiberias (Valiant Hero-American Feature) finished in third place, 3/4-length behind Dexxter, for owners Sergio Holguin, Cliften Nielsen and Felix Rodriguez. Alan Hernandez rode the four-year-old gelding for trainer Wes Giles.
No Mires A La Luna (First Moonflash- Dont Looke Ethel) finished fourth and SC Money Maker (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Spit Curl Diva), Hes Limitless (Corona Cartel-PJ Chick In Black), Apocalyptical Jess (Apollitical Jess-Cassandra Crest) and Up And Coming (Kiddy Up-Hits Keep Coming) completed the order of finish.
