Wootan Racing’s Oatman Creek Senator broke sharply in second from the 5-post and led at every subsequent call to win the $100,000 All American Invitational for 3-year- olds at Ruidoso Downs on Sept. 6.
Trained by Mike Joiner, who prepped two of the 10 sophomores in the full field, Oatman Creek Senator went 440 yards in :21.247 while aided by a 5-mph tail wind, and his margin of victory was a 1/2-length from My Fast Prize. Raul Ramirez Jr. rode Oatman Creek Senator, a brown Oklahoma-bred gelding.
The All American Invitational was one of six Quarter Horse stakes run during the last two days of the 2020 Ruidoso Downs summer meet, and it was restricted to 3-year-olds who raced
in one of nine All American Derby-G1 trials on Aug. 23. Oatman Creek Senator was coming off of a second-place finish, a nose behind winner Fernweh, in the second All American Derby trial, and he recorded the 16th-fastest qualifying time from the 85 sophomores who contested the trials.
