Oatman Creek Senator’s winning connections include owner Wootan Racing, trainer Mike Joiner and jockey Raul Ramirez Jr.
“He ran his best race of the summer,” stated jockey Ramirez Jr. of Oatman Creek Senator’s All American Invitational performance. “We got outbroke by (DF Mischievious Jess), but then my horse kept getting stronger as the race went on.
“He should have been in the Derby instead of the consolation, but it is what it is,” the rider added.
Raced in New Mexico and at Lone Star Park in Texas, the gelding has won three of nine starts, and the $42,000 winner’s share of the purse from his first stakes score bumped his earnings to $209,736, of which $103,236 has been pocketed this year.
Oatman Creek Senator’s resume includes
a fifth-place finish, 2 1/2-lengths behind win- ner Hotsempting, in the 400-yard $887,236 Ruidoso Derby-G1, and a third-place finish, 1/2-length behind winner Fernweh, in last year’s 350-yard $1-million Ruidoso Futurity-G1.
“I wish we could have been in the (All American Derby) final, and that he could have run in that race,” said Joiner. “He’s been very con- sistent all summer. He just had a little bad luck in the trials time-wise, but we’re happy with him.”
Oatman Creek Senator is out of Eyesa Lil Cuervo, who has foaled 13 winners and the earners of $1,116,816 from 17 starters, includ- ing Llano Cartel, a half-brother to Oatman Creek Senator who won five stakes from 2012-17, including the 2014 Leo Stakes-G1
at Remington Park, and Cherokee Senator, a full brother to Oatman Creek Senator who
ran third in the August 15, $56,474 Adequan Ruidoso Downs Derby Challenge Stakes.
Oatman Creek Senator’s second dam is Annie Eye Over, who has produced two stakes winners, including Llano Teller, an earner
of $1,770,007 and half-brother to Eyes Lil Cuervo who won the 2010 Remington Park Futurity-G1 and ’11 Ruidoso Derby-G1.
Runner-up My Fast Prize (Mr Jess Perry- Coronas Fast Prize) earned the $18,000 runner- up share of the All American Invitational purse for owner TYKHE Racing LLC, which pur- chased My Fast Prize for $69,000 at the 2018 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
