Frey bred Danjer out of New Track Record setter Shez Jess Toxic, who won the AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2 and Remington Distaff Challenge. The mare
is a half-sister to Pegasus Stakes winner Likeachicillbegone, Manitoba Speed Horse Futurity winner Buckle High and stakes placed Oh So Chilly and Bye Bye Baby Bye Bye. Shez Jess Toxic has produced 100% money earners from four starters. Danjer is her first stakes winner. Danjer’s second dam is winner Dashing Fly Lady.
“This horse is a hard hitter,” said Frey. “He will give you a big effort every time out. He is a gentleman and a professional and he loves to train. You can show him something one time and he’s got it, he’s smart that way.
“I raised this horse and he was easy to break. There was no breaking to it, just get
on and ride off,” he continued. “I also raised his mother. Danjer is a good gate horse but
in this race he kind of turned his head at the start. That hurt his start, but he dug in and was equal to the task.”
When asked about his team, Frey said, “We have a good team, I’m proud of our rider. When Cody Jensen retired, I was worried, but we found another Cody.
“Cody Smith fits this horse really well. He comes and takes him out whenever it’s his turn. Cody is three for five on this guy.”
In regards to Danjer’s future, Frey stated, “We are going to hang around Albuquerque and wait till October 24. That is the AQHA Challenge Championship. We will see how he feels after that and decide on a plan.
“Right now our horse is a little tired, but other than that he pulled up really good. In a couple of days he will bounce back good as new. He always does.”
Owned by Darling Farms, Eagles Fly Higher (One Famous Eagle-Lone Bet) was
in front for much of the race, but slipped behind to secure second place. Mario Delgado rode the colt for trainer Casey Black. Eagles Fly Higher won the Sooner State Stakes-G1, Eastex Stakes-G2, Prairie Meadows Championship Challenge Stakes-G2 and Remington Park Juvenile Stakes.
After a great break, Apollitical Pence (Apollitical Jess-Send City) was able to hold on for third place for owners Dunn Ranch and Valeriano Racing Stables. The Monty Arrosa
trainee had James Flores aboard. The gelding won the Mighty Deck Three Stakes-G2 and Heritage Place Derby-G3.
Jess A Satin Flash (First Moonflash-Jess Satin), Valiant Tiberias (Valiant Hero- American Feature), Mi Amor Secreto
(The Louisiana Cartel-Streakin In Secret), Marcus Medallion (Jesse James Jr-Houstons Medallion), Putinical (Apollitical Jess-KGB Agent Anna), Apollitical Papa (Apollitical Jess-Sissys Tres Girl) and No Mires A La Luna (First Moonflash-Don’t Looke Ethel) com- pleted the order of finish.
