Garanones Futurity Consolation
RG BLACK DIAMOND
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
With different runners, but as exciting as the Mexico Futurity, the dispute for the consolation prize was among those who quali- fied with the times of 11 through 20 in the respective trials of the Garañones Futurity. The consolation was at 300 yards on fast track, with a purse of $457,465 pesos (approx. $24,302 US).
After Henyetta Horse (#5) was scratched for breaking out of his gate without rider José Ángel Ambrosio Medina, the event was carried out cleanly from beginning to end. RG Black Diamond (#3) recovered after a stumble at the start, but imme- diately assumed command of the competition
with assistance from rider Mario Alberto López Marmolejo. Dueling with several rivals, Dancer Chimpa accelerated the pace in the last yards and made the race a photo-finish, with the decision being that the Rancho Las Gaviotas grey crossed first by thousandths of a second. The race chart gave a “nose” difference for the winner, and neck between each of those from second to fifth place.
RG Black Diamond covered the distance in :15.19 for a 96 speed index, adding his second win in three outs on the track, which he gets after qualifying with the fourth best time for the consolation in :15.293, participating in the ninth race on June 23, which culminated in a duel for third place with LA Rapid King Judea and the aforementioned Henyetta Horse.

bred RG Black Diamond
and also trains him at the
facilities of Rancho Las
Gaviotas, located in the
State of Morelos. As the
gelding passed through
the 2017 Selecta Yearling
Auction (Hip #108), he
was repurchased for $84,000 pesos (approx. $4,705 US), returning home to continue devel- opment. Since being born in May is considered “late,” it was a factor that put him in a competi- tive disadvantage against those born in the first months of the year.
This triumph is the main result obtained from the breeding, training and competi- tion program initiated in 2013 by Rancho Las Gaviotas, with a significant presence of mares descended from the stallion Sambaso Dancer (First Down Dash-Beduino Dancer, by Beduino TB), genetics which have proven expectations in the maternal line in their crosses with their own stallions.
For this win, the gelding added $228,732 pesos (approx. $12,151 US) to his earnings, also adding points for trainer Efraín Anastacio Valdivia, who saddled him. This was the gelding’s first win.
Dancer Chimpa (Ze Dancer- Macumba Royal Hemp) gave a great race and was second under José Manuel Cisneros for owner Cuadra Díaz de León, trainer Epifanio Carrasco Sandoval and breeder Félix Bañuelos. In five starts, he has a record of 3-2-0.
With Alejandro Gómez at the controls, Felino Horse (Sea Horse Corona-Feminine Feline) finished third, at the neck of Dancer Chimpa. The colt is owned by Rancho El Búfalo, trained by Guillermo Navarrete Rizo and bred by Salomé Gallegos.
The other positions when crossing the
finish line were: See The Jump (See It Snow– Unforgetabull), One Cash (Bullish One– Platinum Cash), Divas First Spartan (Divas First Down–La Candy Woman), Sambaso Diamante (Sambaso Dancer–Tessas Decked Out), Dominite Horse (Sea Horse Corona–Dominike) and LA Rapid King Judea (Rapid Fire Jess– Queen Judea).
