  SLAMMED
Slammed resumed her domination of
the New Mexico-bred Thoroughbred distaff division, as the bay daughter of Marking began her 4-year-old season with a 1 1/2-length victory in the February 6, $100,000 La Coneja Stakes (R) at Sunland Park.
Trained by Todd Fincher for owners Fincher Racing LLC, Brad King, and Suzanne Kirby, Slammed covered 6 furlongs in 1:08.54. Alfredo Juarez Jr. rode the filly, who earned $60,000 from her fifth career stakes win.
Slammed was bred by Brad King and Todd Fincher. The filly is one of four official black- type stakes winners from 5 starters sired by Marking, a Kentucky-bred 10-year-old winning son of the A.P. Indy stallion Bernardini. Racing from 2015-16, Marking earned $426,200 from eight starts, and his record included a second- place finish in Runhappy’s 2015 Malibu Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita Park.
Marking has sired the earners of more
than $1.4 million from three crops, including stakes winners Delbert Too and One Mark. A half-brother to Grade 2 winner Lake Avenue, the stallion is owned by Fred Alexander and Todd Fincher, and he stands for a $4,000 fee at Fred and Linda Alexander’s A and A Ranch at Anthony, New Mexico.
Slammed is also one of four winners from as many starters produced by Hennesey Smash, a 13-year-old daughter of the Hennessy stallion Roll Hennessy Roll who won four stakes in New
Mexico from 2012-13, including the open Bold Ego Handicap at Sunland Park. Slammed is a half-sister to Roll On Diabolical, a two-time stakes winner in New Mexico from 2018-19.
Slammed’s second dam, the unraced Rare Brick mare Some Smash, foaled four other stakes winners, all of whom are half-siblings to Hennesey Smash, including Some Ghost, a Ghostly Moves gelding who earned $899,144 and won eight stakes in New Mexico from 2005-09, and Star Smasher, a son of Full Choke who banked $434,992 and won 10 stakes in New Mexico from 2001-03.
Slammed’s third dam, the multiple stakes winning Kentucky-bred Star de Naskra mare A Smash, produced five winners from five starters, including A Smashing Chance, a stakes-winning half-brother to Some Smash, and Slamming, a half-brother to Some Smash who ran second in the 1995 Gold Rush Futurity at Arapahoe Park.
Slammed traces back to her fourth dam, Half Smash, a New Mexico-bred daughter of the Khaled stallion Binary who won the 1973 Rio Grande Futurity at Ruidoso Downs in her career debut. Half Smash foaled 12 winners from as many starters, including Last Eight Club, a half- brother to A Smash who won the listed Bossier City Handicap at Louisiana Downs in 1990.
Raced exclusively in New Mexico, Slammed has won seven of nine starts, and the winner’s share of the La Coneja Stakes purse pushed
her bankroll to $297,605. She won four stakes
during her sophomore season, including the 1-mile, $100,000 Peppers Pride New Mexico Cup Distaff Championship (R) at Zia Park.
Tight Fittin Jeans ran second and was followed by Proofsinthepuddin, Count Them Again, Marking Time, Lemon Drop Gold, Flaxy Lady, Abbie’s Way, Shugs Charlie and Sheza Dandy R F.
Tight Fittin Jeans is a homebred daughter of the Indian Charlie stallion Shame On Charlie racing for Greg Green, Delinda M. Green, and Corie O’Connor. The 5-year-old bay mare
has won five of 15 outs --- including the 2020 Sierra Starlet Handicap (R) at Ruidoso Downs -- and she has earned $177,486.
A multiple stakes winning 4-year-old Marking filly, Proofsinthepuddin races for Reliance Ranches LLC. Proofsinthepuddin has won three of 10 starts and has banked $98,224.
