“I usually feel the most successful when I feel like I’m doing a good job at juggling all this madness: the career, the horses, travel, trying to be a good mother and a good wife, and having a relationship with the Lord.” – Ashley Schafer
Busby and then with Dusky Lynn Hall, who ran the fastest All-American Youth on him and won the Youth at Breeders Challenge this year.”
• Vanilas Sudden Fame (2010, Dash Ta Fame-SX Frenchmans Vanila, Frenchmans Guy), whom Ashley ran in 2015 along with KR Last Fling. “We won over $100,000 that year and she was a phenomenal individual,” Ashley says.
• JL Dash Ta Heaven (2005, Dash Ta Fame-Dynas Plain Special, Special Feelins), whom Ashley ran in his second derby year while at Jud Little’s and broke an arena record on at the BBR Finals in Oklahoma City in 2011. “Jolene trained him but he’s special to me because he was so early in my career and I’d never ridden a horse of that caliber,” Ashley says. “He was just so fast and could make big mistakes in a run and still just blow the field out of the water. He was an amazing individual.”
• Swoon Ta Be Famous (foaled in 2017, by Dash Ta Fame and out of Guys Tots N Fries, Frenchmans Guy), whom she ran in 2022 to $75,000-plus in earnings.

• Famous Cash Can, aka Albany (a 2017 full sister to Born On Derby Day: Freckles Ta Fame-KR Last Fling, A Streak Of Fling) whom Ashley ran in 2021 and 2022 to over $165,000 in earnings.
SWEET SUCCESS
When asked what she considers her biggest
success, Ashley considers the options. “In the arena, the biggest moment of excitement for
me came in 2015 at the Diamonds and Dirt Futurity when I won on KR Last Fling and won second on Vanilas Sudden Fame,” she
says. “It was very early in my career, there were like 323 entries, they had both placed in a slot race earlier in the week and then they won first and second the first round. I had scratched them out of the second round since I knew they would make the Finals. There were two long rounds and a short round, and they took the fastest 50 times to the short round. They came back strong in the Final to finish first and second in the average! Between the two of them, they won $119,000 that week. I was a very broke and very pregnant horse trainer, so it was definitely the most exciting week in barrel racing that I’ve ever had!
“Obviously, winning is always what we think of, and I like to win as much as anybody, but the things that make me feel the best about myself are helping other people and meeting the needs of my family,” she says. “I usually feel the most successful when I feel like I’m doing a good job at juggling all this madness: the career, the horses, travel, trying to be a good mother and a good wife, and having a relationship with the Lord,” she concludes.
