BUBBA MALLARD

Bubba Mallard registered the first stakes victory of his career in the $50,000 Open Me A Corona Stakes-RG2 at Delta Downs on May 5.
Ridden by John Hamilton, pre-race favorite
Bubba Mallard raced in fourth position early after breaking from the 6-post in the 7-horse field. Bubba Mallard was able to grab the lead by the first call and flew home with a solid rally in the stretch to win the 350-yard test going away by 1-length and stopping the timer in :17.329, which earned a 99 speed index.
Owned by Salvador Marquez, Bubba Mallard improved his record to 14-4(1)-2-0. The $30,000 winner’s share of the purse padded the 4-year-old gelding’s bankroll to $77,577.
Gerald Patin bred Bubba Mallard out of
2-time winner Miss Mallard, a finalist in the 2007 Louisiana Downs Champions Derby-RG2 who banked $49,014 during her racing career. She is a full sister to 4-time East Hi-Point Aged Stallion and multiple graded stakes winner Mr Mallard. Miss Mallard has produced 100% winners/ROM from five starters, including Miss Mallard Struts, who placed third in the French Quarter Stakes.
La Mos Corona (Coronas Leaving You-La Mos Chingono) and Floriberto Maldonado finished second for owner M & M Stables LLC and trainer Orlando Orozco.
JRS Corona Shadow (Coronas Leaving You- Shadow Of Colors) finished third under David Alvarez for owner Gary Hartstack and trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr.
JW Who Dat (Agouti-EW Comment), One Hot Flame (Fast Prize Dash-Rump Shakin), Ho Lotta Game (Game Patriot-Ho Lotta Speed) and TF Racee Runaway (Sir Runaway Dash-Racee Rainbows) completed the order of finish. San Lorenzo Corona was scratched.

Agood break from his rail post helped Featuring Fast Jess earn his first stakes victory in the $50,000 Vinton Stakes at Delta Downs on May 19.
Ridden by Noe Castaneda, Featuring Fast Jess defeated The Cazador by a head in :19.605, posting a 96 speed index. Featuring Fast Jess was making his first start since March 17, when the gelding finished second, 3/4-length behind winner The Cazador, in the 400- yard $73,380 Mardi Gras Derby at Louisiana Downs.
“He’s always been tough when he can make the lead,” said Castaneda of Featuring Fast Jess. “It was a very good field with The Cazador, who I felt was the horse to beat.”
Featuring Fast Jess was bred by Jumonville Farms/Burnett Ranch out of multiple winner Featuringmissjess, who was fifth in the 2009 Texas Distaff Challenge-G3. She has produced 100% money earners from three starters. Featuring Fast Jess is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
Raced exclusively in Louisiana, Featuring Fast Jess has won 4 of 11 starts and the $30,000 winner’s share from this win takes his bankroll to $107,897 for owner Fernando Ramos & trainer Eduardo Morales. Beside finishing 2nd in the March 17 Mardi Gras Derby prior to his Vinton Stakes win, Featuring Fast Jess was 5th in the 2017 LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity-RG1.

Dashnunder Afullmoon (Heza Fast Dash-Full Moon Dasher) ran 3rd under Eddie Sanchez for Rogelio Marquez Jr. & trainer Roberto Madrigal. Followed by JLS Dash N Fire (Heza Fast Dash- Psalmist), Eye Am Sizzlin (Sizzlin Cartel-Eye Opening Jess), Sting Lika B (Hez Fast As Cash-Eyesa B Doll), Diamondinthefront (Game Patriot-Very Intriguing), Corona Ohara (Corona Caliente-KS Scarlett Ohara) and Bababababababad (Reba Reba Corona-Twining’s Cat TB). TF El Whiskey was scratched.

SR SHAMBLES

Jorge Linares rode second-fastest qualifier SR Shambles to a wire-to-wire 1/2-length victory
in the 350-yard $69,552 Old South Derby at Delta Downs on May 11.
Prepped by Josue Ponce for owner Ruben Garcia Montemayor, SR Shambles stopped the timer in :17.253 while recording a career-best 102 speed index. The $34,776 winner’s share of the purse from his second career stakes win pushed the bay gelding’s bankroll to $135,053.
SR Shambles made his sophomore debut with a second-place finish, a nose behind fastest qualifier Droff, in the third of five trials on April 20. Raced in Louisiana and Indiana, SR Shambles has now won six of 16 starts, including last year’s 300-yard $108,800 Heartland Futurity at Indiana Grand. He was also a finalist in the Firecracker Futurity-G2 at Delta Downs. The gelding was bred by Jovetta Meredith out of 2-time winner Parisz. She has produced 100% money earners from three starters. SR Shambles is her first stakes winner and top earner. SR Shambles’ second dam, Quick Moon Sign, won two Grade 1 futurities in 1997, including the Remington Park Futurity, and ran second in that season’s Ruidoso Futurity.
Droff (FDD Dynasty-Cindys First CD) and Luis Vivanco ran second for owner Jorge Haddad and trainer Salvador Flores.
Patrick Richardson’s Stone Cold Leader (Brookstone Bay-Sheza Classy Leader) finished third under Rolando Pina for trainer Joe M. Davis.
The Carter II (Carters Cartel-Wanna Fly), Down N Cruzin (Down N Dash-Cruzin Apollo), Mighty B Grateful (Mighty B Valiant-Curl Girl), Sunset Run (FDD Dynasty-Summer Love Song), Jess Adalida (Jess Louisiana Blue-Wortherweightingold), Vella Buena (Apollitical Jess-Fishers Proud) and Mystical Jess (Apollitical Jess-Traffic Juana) completed the order of finish.
