SHINING SOURCE
Shining Source, a dark bay or brown geld- ing owned by Barton Ranch LLC and trainer Blake Rust, opened his 7-year-old season with a 1 3/4-length victory in the Jan.7 Albert Dominguez Memorial Handicap (R) for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park.
Ridden by Luis Contreras, Shining Source covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.35 while scoring his second stakes win of the Sunland meet. The $51,000 winner’s share of the $85,000 purse pushed the gelding’s earnings to $403,458.
Shining Source was stretching out in distance off of his 2 1/4-length victory in the
6 1/2-furlong, $85,000 Johnie L. Jamison Handicap (R) at Sunland on Dec. 17. He was bred by Susan Vescovo and is one of 17 winners sired by Source, whose 34 starters have earned more than $1.1 million.
Racing between 2001-06, Source won 12 of 61 starts and banked $368,125, and his resume included a third-place finish in the 2003 KLAQ Handicap at Sunland Park.
Shining Source is also one of two win- ners from as many starters foaled by Shine
Miss Comet, a winning daughter of the New Mexico-bred Fappiano stallion Comet Shine. The gelding is a half brother to Kimbell, a Western Gambler mare who won last year’s 1-mile, $170,000 Peppers Pride New Mexico Cup Distaff Championship (R) at Zia Park.
Shining Source traces back to his fourth dam, Goldian, a stakes-winning daughter of the Nantallah stallion Ridan who ran second in the ’71 Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita Park and was a half sister to stakes winner By Popular Demand.
A 1969 California-bred foal, Goldian produced three stakes winners, including Pass Of Gold, a two-time stakes winner at Bay Meadows and Golden Gate Fields in the early 1980s.
Shining Source returned a $3.80 win mutuel as the 9-10 favorite in the field of seven. Raced exclusively in New Mexico, Shining Source has won 10 of 37 starts, and his record includes a 1-length victory in last year’s $85,000 New Mexico State University Handicap (R) at Sunland Park.
Thunder Dome finished second and was followed by He’s Another Who, Hute, Hit A Lick, Weather Dodger, and Waki’s Pride.
Thunder Dome is a 4-year-old owned by W.D. Carson Sr., M.H. Carson, and Leach Racing LLC. The $17,000 runner-up share of this purse bumped his bankroll to $237,683.
He’s Another Who races for Champion Racing Stable. A 4-year-old son of Quinton’s Gold, the chestnut gelding has won three of 16 outs and has earned $135,426.
A homebred daughter of the Medaglia
d’Oro stallion McKenna’s Justice, McGoldie is campaigned by Tom and Sandy McKenna’s Judge Lanier Racing. The filly has won two of seven starts with earnings of$47,150.
Donna Who races for Sam E. Stevens and Sammy L. Stevens of Lamesa, Texas, who also bred the dark bay or brown Indian Firewater filly. Donna Who has won one of nine starts, a 1-mile, maiden-claiming ($7,500) route on January 2, and she has banked $31,176.

HENNESSY EXPRESS
Roimes Chirinos rode Hennessy Express to a wire-to-wire, 8 1/4-length victory in the January 21, 1-mile Enchantress Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred sophomore fillies at Sunland Park.
Prepped by Todd Fincher for owner Dale Taylor, Hennessy Express carved out fractions of :23.38, :47.63, and 1:13.45 before reaching the wire in 1:38.11. The $51,000 winner’s share of
the $85,000 purse from her first career stakes win increased the homebred filly’s earnings to $79,712 from seven outs, all in New Mexico.
Hennessy Express was making her first start since Nov. 22, when she ran third in the Eddy County Stakes (R) at Zia Park. The filly is one of 95 winners from 134 starters sired by Roll Hennessy Roll.
Roll Hennessy Roll has sired 10 official black- type stakes winners and the earners of more than $5.7 million from 11 crops, including multiple stakes winners Back Seat Roll, Kiss My Hennessy, and Twixy Roll.
Hennessy Express is also one of four win- ners from as many starters produced by unraced Accomodate. The daughter of Pleasantly Perfect
has two stakes-placed runners, both of whom are half brothers to Hennessy Express: Hit A Lick, the runner-up in last year’s Albert Dominguez Memorial Handicap (R) at Sunland Park, and Storming Back, the runner-up in last year’s New Mexico Breeders’ Derby (R) at Sunland.
Hennessy Express’ second dam, the win- ning mare Consort Music, ran second in the
‘04 Affectionately Handicap (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack. The filly traces back to her fourth dam, the Grade 2-winning mare Possible Mate who produced three stakes winners, including multiple graded stakes winner Fairy Garden and listed stakes winner A.O.L. Hayes.
Hennessy Express has won two races, includ- ing her career debut, a maiden-special-weight dash for New Mexico-breds at Ruidoso Downs on July 14. The filly was a finalist in the Rio Grande Senorita Futurity (R) at Ruidoso on Sept. 3.
McGoldie ran second and was followed by Donna Who, 13-10 favorite Fast Gator, Movin On, Poseidon Aquarius, Wanna Be Blond, Money Order, Country Club Cutie, and Ghost Of Creebear.
