Desert Classic Futurity
Kevin Birrell’s BF Shes Outrageous, a homebred daughter of the Corona Cartel stallion Big Daddy Cartel and a registered New Mexico-bred, broke her maiden in the April 28 Desert Classic Futurity (R) at Turf Paradise in Phoenix, Arizona.
Ridden by Emilio Tapia, BF Shes Outrageous covered 300 yards in :15.389 and earned a 102 speed index while defeating Run Time by 1 1/4-lengths.
The gray filly was trained by Wes Giles, who qualified five Desert Classic Futurity finalists, all of whom were registered New Mexico-breds.
BF Shes Outrageous made her debut with a second-place finish, a nose behind fastest qualifier Day Thuggin, in the last of three Desert Classic Futurity trials on April 5.
The filly’s sire, Big Daddy Cartel, earned $121,800 from five races at Ruidoso Downs in 2011, and he was a finalist in that season’s All American (G1) and Rainbow (G1) futurities.
A half-brother to stakes winner Miss Racy Eyes, Big Daddy Cartel has sired the earners of more than $9.5 million from six crops,
including multiple graded stakes winners Bigg Daddy, Cat Daddys Lil Girl and Mamacita Cartel, and graded stakes winner Donelli. The stallion is owned by and stands for a $5,500 fee at Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico.
BF Shes Outrageous is out of BF Outrageous, a homebred daughter of the Special Effort stallion Proudest Effort and winner of the ‘03 Diamond Classic Derby at Wyoming Downs. The filly’s fourth dam, Miss Bank Night, was a winning and multiple stakes winning daughter of the Three Bars stallion Bank Night.
BF Shes Outrageous traces back to her fifth dam, Princess Tahiti (TB), a Kentucky- bred Tahitian King (TB) mare who won the 1960 Ruidoso Thoroughbred Futurity and was a half-sister to three Thoroughbred stakes winners, including multiple stakes winners Royal Course and Chulla Rulla.
The $30,305 winner’s share of the $60,610 Desert Classic Futurity purse increased BF Shes Outrageous’ earnings to $30,977 from two starts.
Second placed Run Time races for Ezra Lee, who also bred the bay Big Daddy Cartel filly. The winner of her Desert Classic Futurity trial, Run Time has earned $14,205 from two races.
Tickle The Nickel finished in third place,
a nose behind runner-up Run Time, and was followed by Antinori, Pennie Wize, Mister Bigg, Empty Promise, Boneta Flat, and Branch Rickie.
Tickle The Nickel is a homebred bay daughter of Big Daddy Cartel campaigned by Jill B. Giles and Kathy Lee. The filly has won one of her two races and has banked $8,187.
