City Of Hialeah Stakes
FREAKING
by John Moorehouse
Running in the Sunshine State continues to agree with Freaking. The gelding opened his six-year- old campaign with a close win in the $22,500 City Of Hialeah Stakes held Jan. 22 at Hialeah Park. It marked the second straight win for Freaking during the Hialeah meet. He also finished first by a half- length in the Signature Stakes on Dec. 26,
This latest race proved to be much closer. Freaking broke from the two hole right alongside betting favorite Hawkinson Time. Those two battled for the lead for the entire 400 yards, separating themselves from the rest of the field by daylight as they entered the last 100 yards. Freaking proved best, making it to the wire first by a head while Hawkinson Time dropped back.
Freaking’s time, :19.565, was his best at the 400- yard distance. He earned a $13,500 sum, improving his lifetime payroll to $58,856 for owner/trainer Ricardo Martinez. Alex Baldillez Jr., the meet’s cur- rent leading rider, was aboard Freaking.
Edward Allred bred Freaking out of the stakes- placed mare Chickasis. Six of her 24 foals also have some sort of black type, including stakes winners Hard Hitting, Hot Hitter and Lassen County.
Opportunity Zooms (Shazoom-Strawfly
Six) made a strong finish to swipe second for owner/trainer Jorge Luis Mendoza. Randy
Edison was up. Jesse In Town (Feature Mr Jess- Whatsthatfillysname) took third. Jackie Kirby trains for owner Mary Passmore. Oscar Delgado rode.

Miami-Dade County Stakes
LOGANS DASH
by John Moorehouse
Logans Dash parlayed a strong break into his second straight win, finishing first by daylight in the $22,250 Miami-Dade County Stakes on Jan. 22 at Hialeah Park.
Each of Logans Dash’s back-to-back victories have come in stakes company. He also won the Biscayne Stakes held on Jan. 8 at Hialeah Park, and now holds four wins in 10 total starts. The $13,350 prize for this latest triumph swelled his career earn- ings to $60,624.
Logans Dash won this stakes with relative ease, emerging from the two gate and smoothly making his way to the front of the eight-horse field. Logans Dash had clear separation on his closest rival, True Action, entering the final 100 yards and continued to pull away before reaching the finish line with an official three-quarters of a length margin of victory. Anibal Hernandez owns Logans Dash, who is trained by Manuel Mata and had jockey Jeremy Garcia in the irons.
Triple M Farms LLC bred Logans Dash, the only starter thus far out of Logans Game. The 2004 mare is also owned by Triple M Farms, and has produced three total offspring.
Okey Dokey Diamond (Okey Dokey Dale- Diamond Of Deception) finished second by a neck for Rito Fernandez Moreno. Victor Gonzalez trains the filly, who was ridden by Victor Olivo. True Action (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Queen Then And Now) placed third. The filly is owned by Raudel Mora, trained by Guillermo Valdivia and had jockey Alex Baldillez Jr. in the irons.

JESS PHENOMENAL
by John Moorehouse
In just his second out since 2009, Jess Phenomenal scored a surprising victory in the $22,500 Banyan Tree Stakes held Jan. 22 at Hialeah Park.
Jess Phenomenal ran in a 330-yard claiming race at Hialeah on Dec. 30, finishing fourth. That was his first start since a 350-yard claimer at Evangeline Downs on Nov. 1, 2009. In fact, Jess Phenomenal’s most recent prior win was on July 10, 2008, a 350- yard allowance at Sam Houston.
In this race, Jess Phenomenal broke from the nine hole in the middle of the pack. Meanwhile, Jazz And Corona and Bold Badon emerged from the first and second gates in front and started a battle for the lead. Meanwhile, Jess Phenomenal was in the midst of his own charge from the outside, reaching the wire first by a nose as part of a blanket finish.
Alejandro Medina’s seven-year-old gelding went off at 13-1 odds, reaping a $13,500 payday that boosted his earnings to $41,345. Ricardo Martinez trained Jess Phenomenal and Francisco Ramirez Jr. rode.
Celina Molina bred Jess Phenomenal out of Miss Mighty Casady. Miss Mighty Casady appeared in five stakes during her career. As a broodmare, she’s produced five starters from nine foals. Jess Phenomenal is the first stakes winner.
Bold Badon (Dale Badon-Darbs Doll) settled for a close runner-up finish. Francisco Ramos owns the gelding, a Sacramento Chavez trainee who had jockey Yordanis Amaro in the irons. Jessgonnafly (Fly Jess Fly-Toast To Gypsy), who hit the board
