 Whizkey Glasses is joined in the winner’s circle by his winning connections after his Golden State Million Futurity-G1 victory.
of the gate on top from the outside post for jockey Jesus Ayala. A couple of others tried to stay with Whizkey Glasses, but he put them all away and scored wire-to-wire by 1 1/2-lengths in :19.871 for 400 yards.
“The horse had a fantastic break,” said Ayala. “He left the field easily after the start. Two or three jumps and he was on top.”
Monty Arrossa trains Whizkey Glasses for the Dunns, who also won the 2020 Champion of Champions-G1 at Los Alamitos with Apollitical Pence. Though the
Dunns enjoyed winning that major event, Matt pointed out the importance of the big futurities.
“This is what you wait on,” he said.
Whizkey Glasses began his career at Remington Park, where in three starts he won twice and finished second once.
Those wins included the Easy Jet Stakes-G3. At Ruidoso, Whizkey Glasses won his trial for the All American Futurity-G1, but not
in a fast enough time to qualify for the final. He finished fifth in the All American Juvenile after bumping at the start.
Arrossa then sent Whizkey Glasses to Los Alamitos, where the gelding is now a perfect two for two. He won his Golden State trial by a 1/2-length and was the sixth-fastest qualifier.
“We knew he was something special, but he just needed a little more time to mature,” said Matt. “He showed up tonight. I kept wondering what could go wrong, but he ran a great race. I think he’s a 440 horse. I don’t want to jinx anything, but he’s special.”
The Dunns bred Whizkey Glasses in Oklahoma from Marys Southernpolicy, who has produced 15 starters, all winners. The
