Queen For Cash broke her maiden in her first start. She then achieved stakes success, winning her next start in the Victoria Ennis Memorial Stakes at Remington Park by 1 1/-lengths. She next won her trial to the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1, making her three wins from three starts, and then she finished third in those finals before what Vaughan described only as “a situation” shut down the filly for the rest of her rookie campaign.
“We couldn’t run her the rest of the year but she came out this year with a big bang,” Vaughan stated.
Indeed. Queen For Cash ran no worse than second at any point during this 350-yard event. She led by a head at the first call, slipped to sec- ond going into the stretch, then surged to retake the lead and hit the wire first with a head margin.
Trained by Carlos Ruiz, Queen For Cash finished her trip in :17.818, logging an 82 speed index and bringing home a $26,880 payday that improved her total earnings to $59,743— nearly doubling her previous career bankroll. Jockey Daniel Torres drew the riding assign- ment for trainer Carlos Ruiz.
“She outran the best in the world out there the other night,” Vaughan said of his filly, who now holds four victories in five lifetime starts. “She was the only Appaloosa in the race. That speaks for itself. It was a great stakes win.
“She’s just a race mare,” Vaughan added. “She’s got a lot of credibility, with her pedigree and background.”
