Inaugural Classic
JAY NUMBER 7
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
With this race on Feb. 28, the stakes races for the 2021 season at the Hipodromo de las Americas began. Six run- ners aged four & up were enrolled for a purse of $286,000 pesos (approx. $13,596 U.S.) at a distance of 350 yards.
As the winner of the Champion of Champions Classic-G3 on Dec. 13, Jay Number 7, better known as “The Seven,” was marked as the heavy favorite, a preference he made valid in the Inaugural Classic when he won by a 2 3/4-length difference over Heza Movin On, who finished second.
At the start, Heza Movin On (#5) stumbled but did not interfere with any other competi- tors. The race flowed cleanly, highlighted by Jay Number 7 racing through the center of the track and showing superiority as he exhausted the distance under the serene command of
José Angel Ambrosio Medina, who brilliantly sports the double title won in the 2020 season as Champion Rider by Points and Stakes. The running time was :16.85 for a 104 speed index, surpassing the 102 of his previous start in the Champion of Champions Classic.
The son of Im A Fancy PYC and out of First Ginlark (by My First Moon) earned his eighth victory in 13 starts, this being his second stakes win in Mexico, which adds to those won in the United States in the Will Rogers Juvenile Challenge and AQHA John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2.
Bred in the United States by Dustin Cox, the four year old is owned by the Cuadra Cartas Blancas. Trained
by José Eduardo Baltazar Carmona, the gelding added winnings to his record for $143,000 pesos (approx. $6,798 U.S.).
Heza Movin On (Heza
Fast Dash-My Own Fortune)
finished second under
Heriberto Camacho Sotelo
for owner Rancho El Surikato
and trainer Luis Eduardo Flores Gómez.
The third place was for FDD Foose (Foose- Yaya Girl) under the guidance of Mario Alberto

Tetris B (Fast Prize Dash-Diva Eleanor), Mas Buena (Stel Corona-Plenty Good) and SC Baby Jess (One Sweet Jess-Built For Fun) completed the order of finish.
