Velocidad Classic
JRS CORONAS SHADOW
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
This is a classic ingrained in tradition among those who like the explosive speed of the Quarter Horse in short distance racing, since it only consists of 250 yards. Seven 4 year old and older participants were enrolled for a purse of $277,900 pesos (approx. $13,049 U.S.).
It was a diverse group that included everything from a maiden in Come On Tempt Me, to the multiple stakes winner JRS Coronas Shadow who, as the favorite, prevailed with relative ease.
Showing off their experience, they all ran a clean race. Until mid-point, the race was domi- nated by Brabus (#3), but in the second half of the race JRS Coronas Shadow (#5) prevailed, leaving Brabus second at the finish line with Sea Mighty in third, who made a good run on the right side of the track.
Mario Alberto López Marmolejo was the winner’s jockey, and they stopped the timer
in :12.77 for a 106 speed index, leading to his second stakes win in 28 starts, plus six sec- onds and three third places.
His earnings are close to 5.2
million pesos, mostly earned in the United States, as his debut in Mexico was Sept. 8, 2019.
Seven-year-old JRS
Coronas Shadow (Coronas
Leaving You-Shadow Of
Colors, Dashing Val) was
bred in the United States by
Julien R Stevens III, is owned
by Cuadra Los Gavilanes
and trained by Rubén Romo
García. This team has had
a good start to the season,
marked by this triumph and by that of Kenias Black Patriot in the Maiden Stakes.
Brabus (Ivory James–No Ordinary Dash) finished second under with his jockey Rosalino Alcudia. He runs for Cuadra
2 Marías and was saddled by Fermín Uriarte Salas.
In third was Sea Mighty (Sea Horse Corona-Mighty Azoom). Eddi Cuéllar rode the filly for owner Cuadra A.B. and was trained by Gregorio Alberto Razo Parra.
Fantastic Feature Jr (Fantastic Corona Jr-PT Feature Dash), BP Southern Eagle (One Dashing Eagle-BP Shes Southern), Humble
Lady (Deefirst-Royalnative Noblese) and Come On
Tempt Me (Tempting Dash-Rebas In The House) completed the order of finish.
