The photo on page 181 shows Lil Bit Rusty (Easily Smashed-Rusty Rockette, Rocket Wrangler), dam of World Champion Whosleavingwho. Foaled in 1986, Lil Bit Rusty was bred by Henry Shaw. She had a number of owners through the years, but she was last owned by Bob and Jerry Gaston who purchased her in 2011 right before she passed away. She began her career on the track at two years
of age and raced until she was five years old. During this time, she won 15 races from an impressive 47 starts, winning the QHBC Distaff Classic-G1, Pat Hyland Memorial-G3, St Nicholas Express Handicap-G3, Coors Futurity and Real Wind Handicap. She was named the 1990 California Hi- Point Aged Mare.
After her notable career on the track, Lil Bit Rusty went on to have an even more remarkable ca- reer as a broodmare. She produced 14 winners and 4 stakes winners – all from different sires – from 20 starters, including 2-time stakes winner and Champion sire Coronas Leaving You. Lil Bit Rusty’s top runner, however, is 2002 World Champion and 2001 Champion 3-Year-Old Gelding Whosleav- ingwho, who also made 47 starts on the track. The gelding earned $1,334,842 winning 23 races and 10 stakes, including the Champion of Champions-G1, Los Alamitos Winter Derby-G1, Los Alami- tos Winter Championship-G1 twice and the Go Man Go Handicap-G1 twice. This year’s $203,950 Los Alamitos Winter Championship-G1 was won wire-to-wire by Flash Bak on Feb. 13.
