 The Nearco sire line today is very prominent through the stallions A. P. Indy and Storm Cat (shown). Storm Cat is a son of Storm Bird by Northern Dancer by Nearctic by Nearco.
   he grew tired fighting for the lead. He won four with one third in his campaign at three from eight starts. He earned $494,795 for the year.
The breeding career for Favorite Trick started at Johnny Jones’ Walmac International in Lexington, Kentucky. As Paul Jones noted, he was later moved to Florida and Cloverleaf Farms. He was then purchased by Paul Jones and R. D. Hubbard and then syndicated.
The sire record for Favorite Trick shows his Thoroughbred foals with earnings of over $17,000,000. He sired 41 stakes horses including Datrick, winner of the Kentucky Breeders’ Cup Stakes-G3 at five furlongs; Yucatan, winner of such races as the Forego Handicap at 6.5 furlongs; Zoeling, winner of the Mr Jenney Handicap at five furlongs; Tight Spin, winner of the Incredible Revenge Stakes at 5 furlongs; and Sum Trick, winner of the Riley Allison Futurity at 6.5 furlongs.
The Quarter Horse foals for Favorite Trick have earned $4,332,041.50 from 87 starters earning 63 ROM with six stakes winners and four stakes placed runners.
His stakes horses include Good Reason
SA, winner of $1,446,727; Tricky Dust, winner of $428,581; Prankster CF, winner of $230,013; Tango Blue, winner of $169,757; and Hollywood Trickster, winner of $92,096. Favorite Trick died in the barn fire that housed six stallions at the JEH Stallion Station in New Mexico in 2006.
 Phone Trick, the sire of Favorite Trick, won nine of his ten starts earning $395,112 including five stakes races. It has to be noted that Phone Trick didn’t start until he was three. His stakes wins consist of the Palos Verdes Handicap and the Debonair Stakes at three, with the San Carlos-G2, the True North Handicap-G2, the Bold Ruler Stakes-G2 at four. He set a track record at Hollywood Park in an allowance race for six furlongs by going the distance in 1:08 4/5. He was noted for his speed.
Clever Trick was the sire of Phone Trick. Clever Trick was a sprint specialist winning seven stakes including the Timonium Futurity, Marlboro Nursery Stakes, Sugar Bowl Handicap, Dragon Stakes and the Don Leon Stakes – all at two. He won the Bachelor Stakes and the Thomas D. Nash Memorial Handicap at three, while winning the Gravesend Handicap at four. Another speed specialist with 29 starts, 18 wins, two seconds and one third earning $419,787.
Icecapade was the sire of Clever Trick.
He was what they call a miler. He won seven stakes including the Stuyvesant Handicap-G3, Saranac Stakes-G3 and the Kelso Handicap all at one mile. He won the Nassau County Handicap-G3 at seven furlongs. But he showed speed when setting a New Track Record at Monmouth Park going six furlongs in 1:08. He had 32 starts with 13 wins, six seconds and one third earning $256,468. Icecapade sired the winners of $30,049,867.
 Nearctic, the sire of Icecapade, was raced 47 times with 21 wins, five seconds and three thirds. He earned $152,384. He was the 1956 Canadian Champion Two Year Old. He raced from 1956 to 1959 winning 15 stakes races. They include the Carleton Stakes, Clarendon Stakes, Saratoga Special Stakes, Victoria Stakes, Jacques Cartier Stakes, Bold Venture Stakes, Swynford Stakes, Vigil Handicap and the Seaway Handicap. He stretched out to win such stakes as the Canadian Maturity Stakes, Sandown Handicap, Michigan Mile Stakes, International Turf Handicap.
Icecapade was out of Shenanigans by Native Dancer. He was a cross of Nearctic on a Native Dancer mare that also produced Northern Dancer.
Nearco, the sire of Nearctic, was bred by Federico Tesio, an Italian racehorse breeder and owner who dominated the race scene in Italy and much of Europe. The story of Nearco has an interesting twist. Tesio traveled Europe to find stallions to breed to his mares. He had the mare Nogara, a major stakes winner in her own right. The stallion he wanted to breed her to was Fairway. Fairway was an outstanding racehorse winning 12 of his 15 starts. At two he showed his speed winning the Coventry Stakes, July Stakes and the Champagne Stakes. He was the Champion Three-Year-Old in England the year he won such major races as the
