Shenoshercorona was a race mare with 15 starts, one win, three seconds and two thirds earning $16,318. Her biggest race was her trial for the Ed Burke Memorial Futurity. She finished second to Hawkish, who went on to win the finals of that race.
The produce record for Shenoshercorona shows 23 starters with 13 ROM, three stakes winners and three stakes placed runners. Her stakes winners include Shescheckinumout, by Check Him Out, winner of the La Pacifica Handicap; and Hospitaliti, by Mr Jess
Perry, winner of the Alex Picov Memorial Derby. Her stakes placed runners consist of Henoshersecret, by No Secrets Here, who was second in the El Primero Del Ano Derby-G2; Hes Regal, by A Regal Choice, who was second in the Tom Tucker Memorial Stakes; and Slump Buster, by Walk Thru Fire, who was third in the Arapahoe Derby Challenge.
Corona Cartel, the sire of Shenoshercorona, was a three time stakes winner including the Los Alamitos Million Futurity-G1 and now he is the #2 AQHA leading sire of money winners with earnings of over $64 million. His sire was Holland Ease by First Down Dash. Corona Cartel’s dam was the blue hen mare Corona Chick, a three time AQHA Racing Champion and AQHA Broodmare of the Year. She was sired by Chicks Beduino by Beduino. Corona Chick’s dam was Sizzling Lil by Sizzle Te by Azure Te TB.
Newmarket Stakes, Eclipse Stakes, St Leger and the Champion Stakes. All of these races were run at 10 furlongs or longer. Tesio didn’t breed Nogara to Fairway, as the owners turned his request down.
Tesio did the next best thing and he bred her to Pharos, the full brother to Fairway. Pharos won 14 stakes but was not considered as good a racehorse as Fairway. His stakes races include the Bedford Stakes, Chesham Stakes, Mersey Stakes, Lambton Stakes, Hurst Park Great Two-Year-Old Stakes, Hastings Stakes, March Stakes, Royal Stakes, Liverpool Summer Cup, North Sea Stakes, Champion Stakes and the Duke of York Handicap.
Nearco raced 14 times with 14 wins. He was raced from 5 furlongs to a mile and 7 furlongs, winning races like the Italian Derby, the Grand Prix de Paris, the Gran Criterium, the Premio Tevere, the Premio Chiusura,
the Premio Parioli, the Gran Premio di Milano, the Gran Premio d’Italia and
the Grand Prix de Paris (1938). He was
the Italian Champion Two Year Old in 1937, the Italian Champion Three Year Old and the Italian Horse of the Year in 1938.
Tesio made a hard decision when it appeared that Mussolini was leading Italy
to eminent war as an ally of Nazi Germany. He sold Nearco in 1938 to Martin H. Benson of Beech House Stud in Newmarket, England. The rest is history and Nearco
went on to be one of the most influential sires the world has known. Nearco was sired by Pharos, who was sired by Phalaris and out of Scapa Flow by Chaucer. Nogara, the dam of Nearco, was sired by Havresac and out of Catnip by Spearmint.
The Nearco sire line today is very prominent through the stallions A. P. Indy and Storm Cat. A. P. Indy traces in the sire line through his sire, Triple Crown winner and leading sire Seattle Slew, to Nearco through Seattle Slew’s sire Bold Reasoning by Boldnesian by Bold Ruler by Nasrullah by Nearco. Storm Cat is a son of Storm Bird by Northern Dancer by Nearctic by Nearco. It has to be noted that both of these sires were out of daughters of Secretariat by Bold Ruler by Nasrullah by Nearco.
Favorite Trick was out of Evil Elaine
by Medieval Man. Evil Elaine was a stakes winner in the Coronado Stakes. She won $119,727. Her sire Medieval Man was a stakes winner of three stakes with one run at 5.5 furlongs and two at 6 furlongs. The sire of Medieval Man was Noholme II, who is the sire of The Signature and Shirley’s Champion – both influential sires in the racing American Quarter Horse. Distinctive Elaine was the dam of Evil Elaine. Distinctive Elaine was sired by Distinctive, who was the winner of four stakes races including the 6 furlong Gravesend and the 6 furlong Rumson Handicap.
