have to have Streakin Six. Tres Seis goes back to that.”
He then added this about double breeding in the pedigree as a part of
his breeding program, “I double up on
a lot of stuff. I have about 1,200 head
of registered cows and I will double up
in the pedigree on them. We get more consistency and conformity with size and color, and I do it with my racehorses.” So, he bred Tres Veses by Tres Seis, a grandson of Streakin Six, to Apollitical Jess, a grandson of Streakin Six. So, let’s take a closer look at the Apollitical Jess/Tres Seis cross and their connection to Streakin Six that comes together in KJ Desparado.
The Sire
Apollitical Jess was the 2010 World Champion, Champion Three-Year-Old and Champion Three-Year-Old Colt. He started his racing career at two with six starts, two wins and three seconds including a second
in Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1. He won his World Championship title with eight starts earning six wins. His wins include the Los Alamitos Super Derby, where he set New Track Record for 400 yards in a time
of :19.133. His Super Derby win qualified him for the Champion of Champions-G1 where he won in a New Track Record time of :20.939 for 440 yards. He was also second in the All American Derby-G1 and he earned $1,399,831 in his career.
The sire record for Apollitical Jess shows that he is the sire of horses that have won over $44 million since his first runners hit the track in 2014. Since those first runners, he has been the #1 leading sire of money earners three of the last four years (2017, 2018, 2019) and is the current leading sire of 2021 with over $6 million in earnings for the year so far. Another significant statistic is that Apollitical Jess has sired the winner of the All American Futurity three of the last four years with Apocalyptical Jess in 2018, Mr Jess Jenkins in 2019 and now KJ Desparado in 2021.
Apollitical Jess is sired by 2-time Champion Mr Jess Perry, the winner of $687,184 on the track. Mr Jess Perry is the sire of horses that have won over $59 million. His leading runners include the

other stakes winner besides Runaway Kate is Illusive Princess, winner of the 1992 Alamo QHBA Futurity. Illusive Princess was the 2002 Broodmare of the Year thanks to her runners First Place Queen, winner the 2002 Golden State Futurity-G1 and Los Alamitos Million Futurity; and First Place Princess, winner of the East Distaff Challenge-G3 and the Ruidoso 550 Championship. Both of these runners were sired by First Place Dash, making them 3/4-sisters to First Place Kate. First Place Queen is the dam of Mr Queens Mystery, winner of the Texas Classic Futurity-G1; and Queens Strawfly, winner of the AQHA Juvenile Championship. Queens Strawfly in turn is the dam of
FDD Queens Dynasty, winner of the 2014 Alberta Bred Derby.
A pedigree note: We see a similar pattern in First Place Queen and First Place Princess - both sired by First Place Dash and out
of Illusive Princess by Illusivo by Beduino. Then, we see that First Place Kate is sired
by First Place Dash out of Runaway Kate by Runaway Winner by Beduino, having the same breeding pattern and giving these three runners a 3x3 breeding pattern to Beduino.
Jennifer Kate is a stakes placed daughter of Kipty Kate, the fourth dam of KJ Desparado. She was second in the 1998 Retama Park Futurity-G1 and third in the
1999 Manor Downs Derby. Jennifer Kate
is the dam of three stakes winners in Kates Dynasty, the 2013 Champion Two-Year- Old Filly and winner of the Texas Classic Futurity-G1; Texas Icon, winner of the 2010 Q-Racing Stakes; and Texas Sixes, winner of the 2005 Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational-RG3.
While visiting with Lee, I got the impression that he was fond of Tres Seis. We definitely see that with Wild Six, the most successful runner for Lee until KJ Desparado won the All American. You can also see that with the produce of First Place Kate in that she is the dam of four foals by Tres Seis and all four are ROM earners on the track. They include Johnny Getting Cash, a stakes finalist in the 2015 AJAX Derby Challenge; and Tres Veses, the dam of KJ Desparado.
He described Tres Veses this way, “She was really fast. She got hurt in her first
out and had some of the fastest works at Sunland and this Tres Seis mare could
run.” Tres Veses is now the dam of seven foals with seven ROM, one stakes winner
in KJ Desparado, and one stakes placed with Hardtookiss, second in the 2017 New Mexico State Fair Breeders’ Derby. Her foals have now won $1,787,098.
So, I asked him if he likes Tres Seis and he responded, “Yes, I do. It is my belief if you are going to have a running horse you
