Matthew Telford
Matthew Lane Telford
“Tilly”, 56, of Twins
Falls, Idaho, passed
away with his loving
wife Dr. Melinda Daw-
son Roche by his side.
Matt was born in Idaho
Falls in 1964. He was
passionate about his
work in the cattle indus-
try as a buyer. His first
love was feeding cattle, and he had an eye for seeing potential in “plain” cattle and feeding them up to make a quality product. Matt also was an avid team roper, competing in USTRC, PRCA and amateur rodeo events, and enjoyed sponsoring up and com- ing rodeo athletes. Matt purchased a yearling Quar- ter Horse for his wife, and that spurred their shared love of horse racing. Telford was a loving individual who valued his relationships built with friends and family.
Dan Moon
Longtime Idaho horseman Danny Alvin (Dan) Moon passed away following a battle with idiomatic pulmonary fibrosis. Dan served in the Army Nation- al Guard from 1964-1970, was a Sergeant First Class in the 116th Engineer Battalion and served in Viet- nam from 1969-1970. After his service, he worked for John Price & Associates from 1970-1979, moved to Bateman Hall Construction and then partnered
as owner in the company until he retired in 2010. Moon married his wife Connie in 1974 and they made their home in Ririe, Idaho, where they raised four children. Dan was a successful breeder and owner of Quarter Horses, racing them on the flat tracks and in chariot racing, with 76 firsts and the earners of $527,622. Perhaps his best horse was Jet Wings One ($81,360), winner of the 2021
Adequan Los Alamitos Derby Challenge and a finalist in the Adequan Challenge Championship-G3 on Oct. 23.
Harry James MacRoberts
Harry James MacRoberts, 74, passed away at his home surrounded by family following complica- tions from bone cancer. Harry married equine artist Ginny Harding in 1996, and they bred and raised Quarter Horses for decades on their Toll Tax Farms in Finley, Washington. Harry owned and operated Super Scrap, a scrap and special metals company. He was passionate about horse racing; baseball, where he coached youth teams for many years; and music, playing guitar and as a songwriter.
Steven Burdell Tipping
Steven “Tip” Burdell Tip- ping, 64, passed away. Born in 1957 in Ogden, Utah, Tipping was in- volved in rodeo and riding. In high school, he began riding racehorses and for the next 30 years he trav- eled across the country as
a jockey. He earned lead-
ing jockey titles at Rupert,
Burley and Pocatello in
Idaho, riding the earners of nearly $400,000. After riding his last race in 2021, Tipping worked for a nutraceutical company. Perhaps the best horses he rode were Cowboy Classic Futurity-G3 winner Baby Its Tonight and Boise Derby-G3 winner Samjun. He was known for his keen sense of understanding animals and his sense of humor.
John G. Johnson
Passes Away
Longtime horseman John G. Johnson of Shadehill, South Dakota, passed away at the age of 90. John- son has been involved in Quarter Horse racing since the 1980’s. He is the owner of over 1/2-million in earners. He is the owner of multiple stakes winners, but perhaps his best horse was Faster Than Hasta ($245,742), winner of the 2020 Covered Bridges Stakes-G3 and 2021 Energy Downs Distance Chal-
