JAGNESTIMBER
by Tracy Gantz
Bettors who backed Jagnestimber in the $26,081 Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby at Century Mile on July
2 found a lot to celebrate during the Fourth of July weekend. As the third- longest shot of the field, Jagnestimber paid $141.40 for a $2 win ticket.
Jockey Adrian Gonzalez broke Jagnestimber on top in the 330-yard derby, but several others also got away well and Jagnestimber was fifth early. She put in a late drive to score by a neck in :17.326.
Jagnestimber hadn’t won since her racing debut a year previously. She fin- ished unplaced in five races in between victories. Joe Halerewich owns and trains Jagnestimber, who was bred in
Alberta, Canada, by the partnership of Halerwich/McCurdy/Campkin.
Winner Gilded Gold is the dam of Jagnestimber. The mare has produced two winners in four starters, includ- ing Timbergold, who won last year’s Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby, ran second in the 2019 Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity, and finished third in the 2019 Jerry Stojan Memorial Stakes. The family goes back to the stakes-win- ning Spencer Childers-bred mare Black Sable, Jagnestimber’s fourth dam.
Eyesa Timber (First Timber-Eyesa Perry), bred, owned, and trained by Wesley Oulton, finished second with J.B. Botello aboard. Eyesa Timber won the 2020 Canada Cup Futurity-G3
and Alberta Bred Futurity.
Glenn Wills’ homebred Bigtime
Knockout (Teller Im Bigtime-Royal Knockout) ran third. Martin Ortiz rode the gelding for trainer Buckey Stockwell. Bigtime Knockout ran third in the 2020 Alberta Bred Futurity.
Completing the field were Timbers Express (First Timber-Daddys Express Girl), Ulnvme To (First Timber-Ulnvme), Northforkhigh (Streakinisanattitude-Highnest-TB), Bound Too Be First (First Timber- Snowbound Star), Jess Be First
(First Timber-Ima Jess A Streaker), Shamoura (Cuivre River-Zillas Amour), and Royale Runaway (First Timber-Sparkling Hy).
