Experience pays off, as O First Sweet Heart demonstrated in the $45,826 Alberta Stallion Stakes
Futurity at Century Mile on July 2. The only horse with more experience than just their trial heat, O First Sweet Heart dominated.
O First Sweet Heart was still
a maiden going into the Futurity final, but she had raced three times at Remington Park, her best effort a fifth. Third in her trial behind fastest-qualifier Bearcat Bill, O First Sweet Heart went off at 16-1.
Ridden by Larris Allen, O First Sweet Heart broke third in the final, but quickly took command. She scored by 1 1/2-lengths in :15.619 for 300 yards.
Wesley Oulton trains O First Sweet Heart for owner Jeffrey R. W. Rath, and Oulton bred the filly in Alberta, Canada, from winner Eyesa Perry. The mare has produced four winners in five starters, includ- ing 2020 Canada Cup Futurity-G3 winner Eyesa Timber, a full brother to O First Sweet Heart.
William Leach trains Obsessed Bug (Obsessed With Corona- Paulina Bug) and Destello De Luna (Lethal N First-A Mere Toast), who finished second and third. Corrine Andros rode Obsessed Bug for owner Jacqueline Reay, and Ricardo Moreno rode Destello De Luna
for owners Jane Leech and Haley
Moreno. Obsessed Bug won her trial in her racing debut. Second- fastest qualifier Destello De Luna finished second in his trial, also his racing debut, to Bearcat Bill.
Completing the field were Bearcat Bill (First Timber- Splashy Mamacita), First Golden Rose (First Timber-Madam Goldilocks), Obsessive Gambler (Obsessed With Corona-Snake Eyed Gal), Archie Royal First (First Timber-Gilded Gold),
Not Good Enough (First Timber-Lets Get Going), and A Verygood Moonshine (Six Packa Moonshine-Tammy Timber). First Authority was scratched.
