Second-fastest qualifier Destello De Luna rallied to win the $52,397 Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3 at the Century Mile Racetrack near Edmonton on Sept. 19.
Prepped by William Leech
for owners Jane Leech and Haley Moreno, Destello De Luna went 350 yards in :18.167, to win by a nose.
Ricardo Moreno rode the brown gelded son of Lethal N First.
Destello De Luna was coming off of a 1/2-length victory in the last of 3 Alberta Bred Futurity trials on Sept. 4.
Ken McFarlane bred the geld- ing out of winner A Mere Toast, who has produced 100% winners from two starters. Raced exclusively
in Alberta, Destello De Luna has now won two of his six starts, and the $23,579 winner’s share of the purse from his first stakes score pushed his earnings to $37,479.
The gelding’s resume includes a second-place finish in the $21,696 Alberta Sales Futurity at Evergreen Park on Aug. 21, and a third-place run in the $45,826 Alberta Stallion Futurity at Century Mile on July 2.
Runner-up O First Sweet Heart (First Timber-Eyesa Perry) banked the $8,907 runner-up share of the purse for owner Jeffrey R.W. Rath. Larris Allen rode the bay filly for trainer Wesley Oulton.
Wave Burner (Wave Carver-First
Prize Sass) ran third, a 1/2-length behind Destello De Luna. Silvino Morales rode the gray gelding for owner Jeffrey R.W. Rath and trainer Wesley Oulton.
Bringontherush (Wave Carver- SLS Dashin Corona) finished fourth and the remaining finish was Bearcat Bill (First Timber- Flashy Mamacita), Obsessed
Bug (Obsessed With Corona- Paulina Bug), Top Shelf 109 (Special Fly Bye-See Me Do It Too), First Golden Rose (First Timber-Madam Goldilocks) and A Verygood Moonshine (Six Packa Moonshine-Tammy Timber). First Authority scratched.
