WAVE BURNER
by Danny Camp
Wave Burner has found his groove. After six outs without a victory, he found the winner’s circle in his trial heat to the $69,348 Canada Cup Futurity-RG3 on Oct. 8. He clocked in with the second fastest qualifying time in :21.190 after winning his trial by 1/2-length.
It was a rainy day, but the sloppy track didn’t bother Wave Burner.
Wave Burner broke on top from the four-gate and was never headed.
The gray gelding found himself in front by 1/2-length at the first call and he held that margin through to the top of the stretch. At the wire, Wave Burner and jockey
Silvino Morales finished a neck in front to stop the timer in :20.427.
The gelding earned the first place check of $31,207, which boosts his lifetime earnings to $44,077, and his race record stands at two wins out of eight career starts. Previous to the Canada Cup Futurity, Wave Burner finished third in the Alberta Bred Futurity-G3.
His team includes owner Jeffrey Rath and trainer Wes Oulton. Bred in Alberta, Canada, by Wesley
T. Oulton, Wave Burner is out
of the mare First Prize Sass, who has produced two foals, and Wave Burner is her best product.
Bringontherush (Wave Carver-Sis
Dashin Corona) ran second for owner Dale Zukowski and trainer Darcy Hawkes. D. Benitez was in the irons. Our Storm Chaser (First Timber-Enjoy The Corona) finished third under J. Botello for owners Barry and Janice Sather and trainer Misael Moreno. Followed by Interes Fino (Seperate Interest-Corona Mas Fina), Pappie Due (Pappasito-Suzie Kue), Top Shelf 109 (Special Fly Bye- See Me Do It Too), Bearcat Bill (First Timber-Splashy Mamacita), She Wears The Pantz (Separate Interest- Skinny Jeans), Obsessive Gambler (Obsessed With Corona-Snake Eyed Gal) & First Golden Rose (First Timber-Madam Goldilocks).
