  HS PAUL WALKER
Hubaldo Solis’ HS Paul Walker broke sharply and sprinted to wire-to-wire victory in the January 7, $100,000 Red or Green Stakes (RG2) for New Mexico-bred Quarter Horses at Sunland Park.
Ridden by Hector Aldrete for trainer Alfredo Gomez and sent to post as the 5-2 second choice in a full field of 10, HS Paul Walker covered 400 yards in :19.517, and his winning margin was a neck from Fly On Down. The homebred 7-year-old gelding earned a 101 speed index and the $60,000 winner’s share of the Red or Green Stakes purse.
HS Paul Walker’s sire, Osbaldo, is a multiple graded stakes winning 14-year-old
son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Jesse James Jr. Racing in New Mexico from 2011-17, Osbaldo earned $456,878 from 43 starts, and he won five stakes, including the 2011 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park and the 2015 Jess Burner Memorial Handicap (RG1) at Sunland Park.
Osbaldo has sired the earners of
more than $1.04 million from three
crops, including multiple stakes winner
HS Golden Eagle and stakes winner Blazinberryberryfast. A half-brother to graded stakes winner Blazin Version, the stallion is owned by Hubaldo Solis and stands for a $2,500 fee at Rancho Dorado at Anthony, New Mexico.
HS Paul Walker is out of Strawberryberryfast, an unplaced New
Mexico-bred daughter of the Strawfly Special stallion Strawflyin Buds, and he
is a full brother to 2020 New Mexico State Fair Juvenile Stakes (R) winner Blazinberryberryfast. The gelding’s second dam, Beduinos Cash, was an unraced daughter of two-time AQHA champion Takin On The Cash.
HS Paul Walker’s third dam, Beduino Dancer, was a winning daughter of the Romany Royal (TB) stallion Beduino (TB). The gelding traces back to his fourth dam, Topless Dancer, a winning Texas Dancer mare who ran second in the 1976 Texas Futurity
at La Bahia Downs and was a finalist in that season’s Rainbow and All American futurities at Ruidoso Downs.
HS Paul Walker was making his first start since October 30, when he was
placed fourth in the 440-yard, $125,000 Namehimastreaker New Mexico Cup Championship (RG1) at Zia Park. All told, he has won eight of 32 races and has banked $278,242, and his stakes resume includes a second-place finish in the 2018 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park, and a third- place run, a half of a length behind winner No Mires A La Luna, in last year’s 440-yard, $75,000 First Moonflash Maturity (RG2) at Albuquerque Downs.
Don Chuy C ran third, one length behind HS Paul Walker. Jess Ring The Bell, 19-10 favorite Bigg Dee, Man Of Faith, Hunky
McGoo, Dragon On Ice, Jessies Allstar and Big Crush BB completed the order of finish.
Fly On Down banked the $20,000
runner-up share of the Red or Green Stakes purse for his owner, Dalia F. Aranda, who purchased the 5-year-old One Handsome Man stallion for $7,000 at the 2019 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. Fly
On Down has won five of 21 races and has earned $190,125, and his 4-year-old season included a three-quarter length victory in the June 5, 400-yard Jess Burner Stakes (R) at Ruidoso Downs.
Don Chuy C is a 6-year-old son of champion First Moonflash racing for Jesus T. Carrasco. The brown stallion has won four of 29 outs, including the 2021 Namehimastreaker New Mexico Cup Championship (RG1) at Zia Park, and the $10,000 third-place share of the purse increased his bankroll to $275,000.
