Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1
SIGNS OF LIVEWIRE APHA
by John Moorehouse
After Signs Of Livewire tallied the top qualifying time for the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1, his trainer Dee Keener was a little surprised that the rookie gelding was not tabbed as the favorite by the oddsmakers.
When they ran the $231,435 stakes final on March 19 at Remington Park, Signs Of Livewire left little doubt as to the identity of the top horse in the field. The gelding went wire-to-wire in the 300-yard event, powering his way to his first stakes victory and second win in as many lifetime starts.
“He had the fastest time going in and he looked pretty good in the trial, but they didn’t like him that well, as far as the bets go,” Keener said. “I liked our chances. He pulled up good after the maiden race and the trial race. He was good. He’s a stud colt, you know. He’s pretty easy. He gets off good and likes to train. That’s always a plus.”
Jeff Adams owns Signs Of Livewire, whose career earnings jumped to $93,310 with the $89,218 payday from this futurity.
