JS Runnin Wire closed out his rookie campaign on a high note and has carried over that momentum to his sophomore efforts. The 3-year-old gelding dashed to victory in his 2022 debut on March 19, winning the $40,500 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Stakes by a nose at Remington Park.
“He just didn’t do much last spring at Remington. Then everything kind of came together,” said Dee Keener, who trains the gelding for breeder/owner Shirley Wheeler. “Everything kind of clicked at Fair Meadows. It took him a little time to mature.”
JS Runnin Wire broke on top from the No. 3 gate, led by a head at the first call and slipped to a close second behind RP Reckless Wire going into the stretch. JS Runnin Wire then overtook his foe during the final yards, hitting the wire first by a nose.
Gonzalo Gutierrez was aboard for the victorious 350-yard trip, completed in :17.640 for a 90 speed index.
