                 Chirina Glorys Classic
SPEEDY MOON FIRST
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
This classic, in honor of Champion Chirina Glorys and best daughter in Mexico of the stallion Jodys Glory, was held on April 3 at the Hipodromo de las Americas over a distance of 350 yards. In it, six mares and two fillies faced each other for a total prize of $337,600 pesos ($16,773 U.S. approx.).
It was a diverse group that had Speedy Moon First as the favorite and her stablemate Five Bar Charade, both belonging to the Cuadra Los Gavilanes.
When the race began, it was this entry that set the pace from start to finish. Racing in the center of the track, Speedy Moon First took the lead under the guidance of Martín Utrera Morales to beat Five Bar Charade by 2 lengths, who in turn surpassed Catalina Flyer by 3 1/4-lengths.
The winner finished the 350 yards in :16.77 (SI 104), enough to set a New Track Record. The previous mark was :16.79 achieved on Sept. 15, 2019, by Lafishingonabugsmoon (by Nofishinonafullmoon), also owned by Cuadra Los Gavilanes.
Trained by Ruben Romo Hernandez, the six- year-old mare is a daughter of First Moonflash
and out of Dominating Speed (by Duel Fuel). Of her eleven starts, nine were at racetracks in Texas, having won her maiden on Aug. 24, 2019, at Gillespie County Fairgrounds. Her second win came in September 2020, in a $10,000 claiming race. On May 13, 2021, she said goodbye to
the United States after hav-
ing been claimed for $10,000 by Cuadra Los Gavilanes from Double K Livestock LLC, in a race in which she finished in fifth place.
She was brought to Mexico at the end
of May 2021, according to Rubén Romo Hernández. “Before debuting at the Hipódromo de Las Américas, she ran three races (under the pseudonym ‘La Gavilana’) and although she won two of them, she still did not reach her cur- rent competitive level,” Romo said. In her debut on March 6, she set a New Track Record at 330 yards, and now she did so at 350.
Her record is 4-0-0 in 11 starts and adds $168,800 pesos ($8,386 U.S. approx.) to her
bank account, which exceeds $500,000 pesos.
