The versatility of the American Quarter Horse is making a comeback, and this is the basis of our annual look at a stallion that is making an impact as a crossover
to other events. We have always known that the Quarter Horse is a versatile breed but that the industry started specializing in a given discipline. Certain bloodlines became specialists in their respective event. Racehorses were racehorses and barrel horses were barrel horses. But then we see that speed has always been a key factor in the development of the breed and that speed is important for all disciplines whether it is racing, barrel racing, roping or in cow events like cutting and reined cow horse.
This time we have chosen Valiant Hero as our subject stallion. When we look at Valiant Hero, we see that he was bred to be a racehorse and a sire of racehorses. But Valiant Hero has also made the crossover to be a barrel racing sire. We will examine how he got his start as a barrel racing
sire and the factors that help make him a success in that discipline. But first, let’s look at the credentials that have made him a successful sire.
THE RACE RECORD
Valiant Hero was sired by World Champion First Down Dash, the all-time leading sire of money earners. Valiant Hero
was bred by Julianna Hawn Holt and is out of Corona Chick, a 3-time Champion and an AQHA Dam of Distinction. Valiant Hero was purchased at the 2005
