Garvan Kelly, who bred Party Politics, and Kelly knew that Aleman had trained the sire and dam.
“He asked me to go look at the horse,” Aleman said. “I saw him in Ruidoso, and I thought, ‘Hey, let’s take a shot with him.’ Garvan thought he was a nice horse and when I looked at him, I agreed.”
JGA bought Party Politics for $100,000 at the 2021 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. “I already had him highlighted because
I knew the family and had trained the siblings and they could all run,” Aleman said. “This family has always been pretty high-strung. Shanachee, the mother, was
very high-strung. She was a little nutty in the gate, but she had so much heart. She’s passing that on to this horse.”
Kelly bred Party Politics in Oklahoma out of Shanachee, winner of the 2013 AQHA Members Plus Stakes and 2014 Remington Distaff Challenge. She has produced 12 winners from 16 starters, including stakes winner O Donovan Rossa (a full brother to Party Politics).
Eduardo Nicasio rode Cyber Attack (Favorite Cartel-Remember Me Rose) to second for owner Rosenthal Ranch LLC and trainer Christopher O’Dell. Cyber Attack also finished second in the Rainbow Futurity-G1.
Political Royalty (Apollitical Jess-Trendi), under jockey James Flores, placed third. She is owned by William E. Smith and trained by Heath Taylor. The filly is still a maiden in four starts.
Completing the field were Jeriko (One Famous Eagle-Signs Zoomer), Temple Court (Favorite Cartel-Remember Me Rose), Hay Shaker (Favorite Cartel-Bubblie), Wasting Light (The Marfa Lights-Foo Who), Apollitical Jet (Apollitical Jess-Tres Magicals), Flash Of Gold (First Moonflash-SRC Gold), and AJ Born Runnin (Apollitical Jess- Runaway TRS Seis).
Co-Owner/Trainer Juan Aleman welcomes Party Politics to the winner’s circle.
