Returning to her home state led to a return to the winner’s circle for Cat Daddys Lil Girl. The six-year-old mare went wire-to-wire in the
$100,000 Lou Wooten and Sydney Valentini Handicap, held Jan. 15 at Sunland Park.
Jimmy Negrete and Jimmy Vasquez home- bred the mare, who reached the winner’s circle for the 10th time in her career and banked a $60,000 payday that sent her lifetime earnings past the half-million milestone to $554,408. This marked her fifth win in stakes company, including the past two runnings of this event, which was exclusively for New Mexico-bred fillies and mares.
Cat Daddys Lil Girl bounced back nicely from an eighth-place run in the Champion of Champions-G1 at Los Alamitos last December.
“Getting back with the girls and away from the boys sure didn’t hurt anything. She ran big,” trainer Wesley Giles said. “She ran good in California, she just couldn’t quite hang with
