them in the end. Maybe she didn’t fare out as well [at Los Alamitos], I don’t know. She ran a good race the other day for sure.”
Giles started working with Cat Daddys Lil Girl midway through her 2020 campaign. “She’s pleasant, loves to train and does
everything—just good to be around. She wants to do her job,” said Giles.
The post-time favorite at less than 3-2 odds, Cat Daddys Lil Girl broke on top from the No. 5 gate, opening a 1/2-length lead by the first call. The mare doubled that advantage going into the stretch and then continued to draw clear, sporting a 1 1/4-length margin by the time she hit the wire. The 400-yard trip took :19.367, generating a 102 speed index while running into a slight 3 mph headwind.
“Noe’s been up on her since we started running her,” Giles said. “Noe Garcia knows her well and does a good job with her. They get along good together, apparently.”
A candidate for Champion Aged mare in 2021, Cat Daddys Lil Girl won three stakes last year: the Wooten and Valentini, along with the Easy Date Stakes and Junos Request Stakes-G1, both held at Remington Park.
Negrete and Vasquez bred Cat Daddys Lil Girl out of Girlonthego, a 2012 mare and former winner of the Zia Futurity-RG1.
Giles plans to run Cat Daddys Lil Girl “five or six times” in 2022.
“We try giving her a lot of rest and she does like to run but we don’t want to run her more than six times,” he said.
Mi Moonflash (First Moonflash-Mi Camila TB) finished a steady second. The mare is owned by Pierre Jean Amestoy Jr., Leslie Amestoy and Roger Beasley. Todd Fincher is the trainer and Alfredo Sigala did the riding.
Chicky Chicky Kai (Jess A Chicks-Wahene Kai) nosed out third place for owner Mike Parker and trainer Larry Chavez. Sergio Becerra Jr., was in the irons.
Fireball Flash (First Moonflash-Runaway Dashing), A Flashin Blu (First Moonflash- Blazin Blu), Crown N Royal Gal (Jesse James Jr-First Cowgirl Flash), Jess To Reel (Jesse James Jr-Hot For Reel), Hearts Mystic Rime (Hearts Miracle-Mystic Rime), Famous Julia (Dash For Famous-Julia James) and Amandas Flashy (First Moonflash-Holland Fire) completed the order of finish.
