The Thalamus
¢The thalamus, a vital brain structure that has numerous functions, is a significant landmark for sonographers to locate within the fetal brain.
The two lobes of the thalamus are located on both sides of the third ventricle.
The massa intermedia or interthalamic adhesion passes through the third ventricle to connect the two lobes of the thalamus.
The thalamus should not be confused with the cerebral peduncles, which are more inferiorly positioned in the brain
