  The Thalamus
 ¢The thalamus, a vital brain structure that has numerous functions, is a significant landmark for sonographers to locate within the fetal brain.
— The two lobes of the thalamus are located on both sides of the third ventricle.
— The massa intermedia or interthalamic adhesion passes through the third ventricle to connect the two lobes of the thalamus.
— The thalamus should not be confused with the cerebral peduncles, which are more inferiorly positioned in the brain
