ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY
• The gallbladder is located posterior to the right lobe of the liver within the gallbladder fossa and is considered an intraperitoneal organ.
• A useful landmark to locate the gallbladder is the main lobar fissure.
• This pear shaped sac is used to store and concentrate bile
• It has three distinct layers within its walls. The mucosal layer, fibromuscular layer, and serosal layer.
• The gallbladder has a neck, body, and fundus.
• The neck is contiguous with the cystic duct which connects the gallbladder to there rest of the biliary tree
