The Prize Classic
FAMOUS WAGON TALES
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
This is the first stakes for two-year-old Quarter Horse colts and fillies on the race calendar of the Hipodromo de las Americas. Only 12 of them, all maidens, were registered to run in the finals. Two participants did not qualify and the remaining 10 advanced to the finals that took place on May 2 among just nine runners since the filly Adamas Dale from Cuadra San Benito was not entered. The dis- tance was 300 yards and the purse for first to fourth place reached $448,100 pesos (approx. $22,026 U.S.).
The fastest qualifier at :15.319 was the
colt Famous Wagon Tales and his rider Paul Osvaldo Rodríquez, who only had to repeat their previous start to keep the major part of the purse mentioned. He crossed the finish line 3/4-length ahead of second place in a time of :15.28 seconds for an 87 speed index.
The son of stallion Wagon Tales out of Lil Famous Dash by One Famous Eagle claimed his second victory in two outings at the
track and added winnings of $224,050 pesos (approx. $11,013 U.S.), remaining undefeated
in his brief sporting career. The colt is owned by Cuadra San Lázaro de Arará
and was saddled by former rider Moisés González García, assisted by Eduardo Vargas Sánchez, and both, along with the colt and his rider, received the trophies in the winners’ circle.
For jockey Paul Osvaldo
Rodríguez García, this was
his second consecutive stakes
win, after the previous Sunday when he scored in the Mexican Breeders’ Derby aboard Easy Perry Cartel.
Famous Wagon Tales was acquired by his owner, Luis Miguel Albores Gleason, at the 2020 Heritage Place Yearling Sale (Hip #587) where he sold for $18,000.
The Eye Bet You Can (PYC Paint Your Wagon-My Ladys Eyes) placed second after recovering from the impacts she received on both sides. Juan Diego Márquez did a good job
riding for the Cuadra H-R and coach Ismael Ayala Salas.
The third-place arrival
was a deadheat between the colt Player X Three (Mr Jess Perry-Mischievous Player) and Super Best Card (Docs Best Card-Super Cooper), both
of which marked a time of :15.38. The first was directed by rider Mario Alberto López Marmolejo for owner Cuadra Bronco Rider and trainer
Liderme René Gómez Díaz. For her part, Super Best Card was directed by Alejandro Gómez Díaz for the Victoria MC Cuadra and trainer Gregorio Alberto Razo Parra.
Corona One (One Dashing Eagle-BP Shes All Corona), Sheza Country Doc (Docs Best Card-Chase This Chick), Hawks De Luxe (Hawkinson-Jessadeluxe), Lota Express (Lota PYC-IVJ Beaujolais) and Apollitical Sting (Apollitical Jess-Sting Scorpion) completed the order of finish.
